USR’s Barna: Early elections can be held in the spring, at the earliest. Until then, we support a non-PSD Government that will assume certain objectives

The Save Romania Union (USR)  Chairman Dan Barna stated on Tuesday at the Parliament that early parliamentary elections can be held in the spring, at the earliest, and until then USR will support a non-PSD Government that will assume certain objectives.

“This Government must leave, and a Government that will organize early elections, which are fundamentally necessary for Romania, must come. The current majority has no legitimacy to rule Romania anymore”, Barna stated.

He explained that until the early elections, a non-PSD Government must be formed.

“USR will not be part of this alternative non-PSD Government, but it is willing to support such a Government in the Parliament, as long as the following objectives will be included in its governing program: no criminals in public positions, mayors will be elected in two rounds of voting, correcting the GEO no.114, special pensions. (…) The possibility of a functional Government doesn’t exist in a realistic and mature way, with this parliamentary majority, the one that brought Romania at Europe’s periphery. We cannot form a Government of which we will be part along with the parties that supported Liviu Dragnea until two days ago with all their resources, body and soul”, the USR Chairman stated.

According to the Constitution, the Romanian President can dissolve the Parliament if it didn’t give the vote of confidence for the Government to be formed within 60 days since the first request, and only after at least two investiture requests have been rejected. The fundamental law also states that the Parliament cannot be dissolved in the last 6 months of the Romanian President’s term.
