Opposition tries to oust PSD-ALDE Gov’t. PNL’s Orban: Our wish is to table the motion in the shortest of times, probably on Wednesday. PM Dancila on no-confidence motion: PSD MPs will ensure quorum but will not vote. Ciolacu: PSD-ALDE Alliance has enough votes to prevent motion from passing, mathematically speaking

National Liberal Party (PNL) President Ludovic Orban has stated that the Opposition will table the no-confidence motion in the shortest of times, potentially as early as Wednesday, adding that talks are taking place with PSD and ALDE parliamentarians too.

“The talks continue until the no-confidence motion is tabled. Our wish is to table the motion in the shortest of times, probably on Wednesday,” Ludovic Orban stated.

The PNL President added that talks will take place with the parliamentarians of the ruling parties – PSD and ALDE – in order to secure as many votes as possible in favour of the no-confidence motion.

“We will continue the talks with the other parliamentary groups and individually with the rest of the PSD and ALDE parliamentarians,” Ludovic Orban added.

He also said that, at present, talks are taking place with the USR, PMP, Pro Romania and UDMR.

Ciolacu: PSD-ALDE Alliance has enough votes to prevent motion from passing, mathematically speaking

House Speaker Marcel Ciolacu announced on Tuesday, referring to the no-confidence motion that the Opposition announced that they will table most likely on Wednesday, that the PSD-ALDE Alliance has enough votes to prevent it from passing in Parliament.

“We have enough votes for the motion not to pass. There’s no problem. We’re talking about a motion that hasn’t even been tabled yet. The PSD+ALDE Alliance has enough votes for the motion not to pass, mathematically speaking. We’re talking about a motion that hasn’t even been tabled yet, we’ve been talking about it for a week, maybe they won’t table it anymore. Just like the Opposition, we want this motion to be put to the vote as fast as possible. After they table it, we’ll see what the motion contains and so forth. The motion won’t pass, and I don’t see other problems,” Marcel Ciolacu stated.

The PNL President added that talks will take place with the parliamentarians of the ruling parties – PSD and ALDE – in order to secure as many votes as possible in favour of the no-confidence motion.

Viorica Dancila on no-confidence motion: PSD MPs will ensure quorum but will not vote

Premier Viorica Dancila stated on Tuesday, at the end of the meeting of PSD’s parliamentary groups, that the Social Democrat members of the House and Senate will be present at the plenary meeting to ensure the necessary quorum but will not vote on the no-confidence motion.

“I have discussed the no-confidence motion with my fellow House and Senate members. We have agreed to treat this motion seriously, to take part in the debates, to take to the rostrum and, of course, to move on. We have discussed the organising of the party conference. I have asked my colleagues to come up with proposals related to the party’s programme, but also to the governance programme. They will ensure the quorum but will not vote. I can only agree with their proposal,” Premier Viorica Dancila stated on Tuesday at the Palace of Parliament.

“Whatever they see fit,” Dancila added when asked whether they will stay in the hall or not.
