Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Marcel Ciolacu and US Ambassador in Bucharest Hans Klemm met on Friday to discuss strengthening Romania – US relations.
“Romania is and will stay a strong supporter of the transatlantic relationship. This connection remains indispensable for the security and prosperity of our citizens. Dialogue and cooperation between our countries will further be based on shared values such as democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights,” Marcel Ciolacu said, as cited in a release.
The Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker reiterated the excellent achievements in the line of security under the Strategic Partnership with the US, and expressed the desire for strengthening the economic dimension.
“Romania has several competitive advantages that render it extremely attractive for foreign investments: we are a factor of political stability in the region, we have an economy that grows from one year to another, skilled labor force, but also facilities for the companies that want to set up shop here. These are important assets for succeeding in turning Romania into a regional hub for US exports and investments,” Ciolacu said.
He also recalled his recent meeting with the members of the seventh annual economic mission of the American-Romanian Business Council (AMRO), which brought together eight of the US most powerful companies in areas such as energy, defense or the pharmaceutical industry.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies also expressed interest in intensifying parliamentary dialogue, including through the visit of US Congress delegations.
Ambassador Hans Klemm said he appreciates the opening shown by the Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker to boosting bilateral cooperation, and said that the US is ready to provide Romania all the necessary support for achieving its strategic goals, the cited source said.
