PSD’s Dancila says she might advance a PM proposal in case she wins presidential elections

Prime Minister and Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Viorica Dancila stated on Friday that, in the next period, she might advance a Prime Minister proposal in case she is to be elected Romania’s President.

When asked whether Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici might take over this office, she replied: “Categorically yes.”

The clarifications were made in a press statement held in Vaslui, where Viorica Dancila paid a visit to the PSD branch and participated in the meeting of the County executive Committee.

When asked who is the Prime Minister she “would team up with” in case she wins the presidential elections, Dancila mentioned that she has in mind several persons.

The Prime Minister also said that she only discussed with Pro Romania leader Victor Ponta about a support agreement, without the details regarding the configuration of a future Cabinet.

Not enough time to allow simultaneous local and parliamentary elections in 2020

Dancila commented Friday in Vaslui (eastern Romania) the idea put forth by Save Romania Union (USR) leader Dan Barna regarding the possibility of organizing early parliamentary elections at the same time with the local ones, showing that such a decision involves many steps, which the remaining time interval does not allow.

The clarifications were made after the USR chairman, Dan Barna, told ziare.com that if elected President of Romania he will try to obtain an assumed political agreement for early elections to be conducted at the same time with local elections (that are usually due in summer, while the parliamentary ones are due in autumn, ed. n.).

“Each of us can make statements. These statements must be backed by arguments and a factual basis. If we come up with statements just because we have already entered the electoral campaign, I believe that we will not generate trust among the Romanians. Mr Barna must read, see how this can be achieved and, at the same time, think about the Constitution, think that certain decisions can be made by referendum,” Prime Minister Dancila told a press conference held in Vaslui.
