USR’s Barna says he voted for Iohannis because he is a good man, but change is needed

Presidential candidate of the opposition Save Romania Union PLUS, USR national leader Dan Barna, said on Friday that President Klaus Iohannis is a good man, but that he represents the political class that brought us to the situation where four millions of Romanians live outside the country.

“President Iohannis is the representative of the National Liberal Party (PNL), and I run against President Iohannis and against the other potential candidates. President Iohannis is a good man, but he is the representative, and I want to be very clear, he is the representative of the political class that brought us into this situation. Four million Romanians are outside Romania because for 30 years the entire political class has worked out of touch with the community,” Barna said at a press conference in Sibiu.

Barna said that at the last presidential election he voted for President Klaus Iohannis.

“At the last presidential election, I obviously voted for President Iohannis,” Barna said.

The USR leader also said that the closest battle in the election campaign will be in Sibiu, because it is the first time in Romania when two candidates from the same city will be running in the presidential election, both of whom are likely to reach the second round.

President Klaus Iohannis, endorsed by the opposition PNL, a former mayor of Sibiu city, will fight for a new term against Barna, USR leader, among other candidates.
