Senator Ion Popa, official candidacy from ALDE for the Senate’s Speaker. Tariceanu: Melescanu could be excluded from ALDE if he accepts the seat with PSD’s support

ALDE Chairman Calin Popescu Tariceanu (photo) announced that the official proposal of his party for the position of the Senate’s Speaker is Ion Popa, and mentioned that the persons who accept positions in the Government, Parliament or other institutions without the party’s acceptance or support, will be excluded. “Mr. Melescanu was also present, and he apologized to our colleagues for the situation that he somehow caused, and our colleagues were very clear in what they discussed, in the sense that we cannot accept such a proposal from PSD, which exceeds any political rule”, Tariceanu stated.

Calin Popescu Tariceanu said on Tuesday that several decisions have been taken during the meeting of the ALDE Central Political Bureau.

“The first decision refers to the support given to our colleague, Senator Iani Popa, for the candidacy to the position of the Romanian Senate’s Speaker. Therefore, this is ALDE’s official candidacy for the Romanian Senate”, Tariceanu announced.

He added that the second decision refers to the fact that those who accept public positions in the Government, Parliament or other institutions without the party’s acceptance or support, will lose the capacity of an ALDE member, according to the statutory provisions.

Tariceanu said that both decisions were adopted with an “overwhelming majority”.

“Mr. Melescanu was also present, and he apologized to our colleagues for the situation that he somehow caused, and our colleagues were very clear in what they discussed, in the sense that we cannot accept such a proposal from PSD, which exceeds any political rule”, Tariceanu said.

He added that when his party separated from PSD, there was an agreement according to which civilized relations will be maintained, but he notices “a raging attack from PSD”.
