Senate: A moment of silence for the victims of terrorist attack in Kabul

Senators on Wednesday held a moment of silence for the victims of the terrorist attack in Kabul killing one of the representatives of the Romanian diplomatic mission.

The moment of silence was proposed by the PSD (Social Democratic Party) Senator, Titus Corlatean, Deputy President of the Senate.

“I was shocked to find out all the information that was sent to us related to the terrorist attack in Kabul. I firmly condemn the terrorist attack (…) There were tens of victims, killed or wounded, including a member of the Romanian diplomatic mission, who worked in security. A man who died after showing us the entire measure of his courage, for he was one of those who helped stopping the terrorist attack in the area. I deeply regret this loss and all the other victims who were killed and our thoughts are with his mourning family. I also hope that the other Romanian citizen from the diplomatic mission and all the other foreign citizens who were wounded will get well. Our thoughts are also with their families,” Corlatean said in the plenum of the Senate.

He believes that “the Romanian state must honour the sacrifice of the Romanian citizen.”

“There have been made proposals for state funerals. I believe that this is a legitimate option,” added Corlatean.

The PSD Senator also mentioned Romania needs to continue to support the international efforts to counter terrorism and the peacebuilding missions and for sustainable stability in Afghanistan.

A representative of the diplomatic mission of Romania in Kabul was killed and another was severely wounded in the terrorist attack on Monday night in Kabul. There were 16 persons killed and 120 wounded in the attack, according to the foreign news agencies.
