2,824,594 pupils and kindergarten children will start the 2019-2020 school year on Monday, according to the National Education Ministry.
This year, classes will be taught by a total of 215,289 teachers in 6,293 educational establishments and 11,171 assigned buildings, according to the National Education Ministry.
The new school year will consist of 35 weeks, organised in two semesters, from 9 September 2019 to 20 December 2019, and from 13 January 2020 to 12 June 2020. Classes will end on 29 May 2020 for the 12th grade, as well as for the 13th grade in the case of night schools, and on 5 June 2020 for the 8th grade.
School holidays for all cycles of education are scheduled as follows:
-winter holiday (21 December 2019 – 12 January 2020)
-spring holiday (4 April – 21 April 2020)
-summer holiday (June 13 – the date on which the 2020-2021 school year is set to start in September 2020, yet to be established).
On top of that, the children enrolled in primary school and pre-school classes will also go on holiday from October 26 to 3 November 2019.
In March 2019, 1,180 schools had improper restrooms, the National Education Ministry informs, pointing out that last year that number stood at 1,489.
In a press release remitted to MEDIAFAX, the National Education Ministry points out that in 2017 there were 2,219 schools whose restrooms consisted of outhouses without running water, that number falling to 1,489 in 2018 and 1,180 in March this year.
The representatives of the ministry led ad interim by Daniel Breaz point out that approximately 65 million lei has been earmarked to improve conditions in 858 schools whose restrooms consist of outhouses without running water.
