On October 2, Broadway will move to Bucharest for a new performance of the musical “My Fair Lady”

A memorable, full of humor show

 

“My Fair Lady”, one of the most long-lived and successful musicals of all times, is in the top of the most recommended shows in the beginning of this autumn. The current version of the famous love story, full of humor, will be performed on October 2, at the Palace Hall, starting at 19:30.

The casting brings together great artists of the Romanian stage, a live orchestra, a choir and a ballet band.

The audience can admire soprano Irina Baiant playing Eliza Doolittle, a young florist from London who takes diction lessons from linguistics teacher Henry Higgins. The teacher, a fascinating character brought to life by the masterful interpretation of actor Ernest Fazekas, bets for fun that he can turn her in a real lady. Under the constant incidence of some tasty moments of the language and situation comedy, the show will be complemented by notorious artists, such as: Adrian Nour (Colonel Pickering), Ecaterina Ladin (Mrs. Pearce), Ionut Burlan (Alfred Doolittle), Aura Calarasu (Mrs. Higgins), Filip Ristovski (Freddy Eynsford Hill), Irina Bucescu (Ms. Eynsford Hill) and Ovidiu Usvat (Zoltan Karpathy).

With impressive decorative elements, hundreds of remarkable costumes and interpretations, the show masterfully reflects the ambiance of the London squares and the fascinating and sinuous love story of a phonetics teacher and an ordinary florist. The exceptional music, interpreted by the live orchestra conducted by conductor Daniel Jinga, complemented by the choir and spectacular choreographies of the ballet dancers, are highly appreciated by the public, the musical “My Fair Lady” benefiting from a long standing ovation.

The Palace Hall from Bucharest is the stage where the production of the musical “My Fair Lady”, signed by director Razvan Ioan Dinca, can be watched at real parameters.

The musical “My Fair Lady” is based on the text of the theater play “Pygmalion” written by George Bernard Shaw, whose main character is a figure of the Greek mythology, Pygmalion, who felt in love with a sculpture that he created, and the sculpture came to life. Shaw wrote the play in 1912, and the premiere took place at Hofburg Theatre from Vienna, on October 16, 1913.

Considered today one of the most long-lived and successful musicals, “My Fair Lady”’s world premiere took place on Broadway (New York) on March 15, 1956, and on West End (London) two years later, becoming a legend in the world of the music shows.

The Broadway show has 7 Tony Awards in its portfolio (6 of them for the original version), including “The Best Musical” and “The Best Direction”, a Theatre World Award, 5 Olivier Awards (for the London reprise in 2001), and more than 2,700 performances in total, for the original production – an absolute record for those times.

Today, the famous musical is included in the repertoire of the theaters all over the world, including those in the United States of America, where, in 2018, almost all the Broadway performances were sold out, the show being the leader of the sales rankings several times.

The current interpretation of the show was staged for the first time in 2016, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the musical’s world premiere; the performance was successful and appreciated by both the audience and the critics.
