PSD ExCom to convene on Wednesday shortly after CCR meeting on Gov’t vs President conflict

The Social Democrats will convene a meeting of their National Executive Committee (ExCom) on Wednesday, at 6 p.m., at the PSD headquarters, party sources have stated for MEDIAFAX. The meeting comes against the backdrop in which the Constitutional Court (CCR) meeting in which the parties will present their points of view on the Government vs Klaus Iohannis conflict is set to take place on Wednesday morning.

The Constitutional Court has decided that the parties to the juridical conflict pitting the Government against the Presidency should present their points on view on September 18, at 10 a.m. The conflict was brought to the Court’s attention by Premier Viorica Dancila, after President Klaus Iohannis refused to appoint interim ministers.

“Request to solve the juridical conflict of a constitutional nature between the Prime Minister of the Romanian Government on one side and the Romanian President on the other, request lodged by the Prime Minister of the Romanian Government,” reads the order of business of Wednesday’s meeting, published on the Constitutional Court’s website.

The parties to the conflict had until Wednesday, September 11, to lodge their opinions in writing.

Referring to the notification that denounces a conflict between the Government and President Klaus Iohannis, Viorica Dancila has stated that it should also be seen as a means “to have some rules in the future.”

The Head of Government had sent to the Cotroceni Presidential Palace the decision to nominate Niculae Badalau as interim Energy Minister, Ioan Denes as interim Environment Minister, and Stefan Radu Oprea as interim Minister for Liaison with Parliament, following ALDE’s decision to leave the Government and the resignation of ALDE ministers.

President Iohannis has refused all Government reshuffle proposals made by Viorica Dancila, including the proposed interim ministers.
