On the anniversary of the National Day of the Kingdom of Spain – on October 12th –the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the most sincere congratulations to the Spanish people.
For 138 years of substantial diplomatic relations, Romania and the Kingdom of Spain have enjoyed very deep-rooted bilateral relations based on ever-growing ties, but above all people-to-people contacts as the most important incentive for continued engagement, deepened friendship and expanded cooperation.
The high-level political dialogue intensified further since the Strategic Partnership was launched. The bilateral cooperation has been accompanied during this year by a long series of meetings and contacts at economic and sectoral levels, in fields such as defence, culture, health, police cooperation or public administration, a true proof of the significant will to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation. At the same time, the cooperation between local authorities has intensified, bringing a special benefit to the substance of the bilateral relation.
There are almost 6000 Spanish companies in Romania with more than 1,7 billion Euro worth of investments (ranking 8th), while bilateral trade amounted in 2018 to 4.3 billion Euro. Spanish investments in Romania enhance sectors such as services, retail, energy, real estate and banking. Attracting Spanish investments in areas such as research, innovation, IT, environment, infrastructure and agriculture could further develop the economic cooperation.
The anniversary of the Kingdom of Spain marks an important date for Romania and the Romanian people. With over one million Romanians in Spain and favoured by the common Latin foundation, the second largest Romanian community abroad and the first foreign community in Spain forms an active and perfectly integrated community, representing a true catalyst for a solid bilateral partnership.
Our two countries share common views on many significant topics on the European agenda. During the first ever Romanian Presidency of the European Union Council, we had a perfect occasion to capitalize even more on the similarities we share with regard to the future of Europe in general. We value Spain as an important partner of Romania to work with in a spirit of solidarity, mutual understanding and trust in the interests of our own citizens.
Romania and the Kingdom of the Spain enjoy all favorable bonds of friendship and a very sound cooperation in order to deepen the bilateral relation in all areas in the years to come for the common interests of our two nations.
¡Feliz Día de la Hispanidad!
