“The PSD and UDMR are not national democratic parties. They are a gang of local barons who want to rule city halls and counties like landlords. And they have proven this today, in the Senate, by voting against two-round mayoral elections,” Senator Vlad Alexandrescu (USR) posted on Facebook.
In his opinion, the UDMR and PSD MPs do not represent the citizens who want what is good for the country.
“Not that it’s something new, but it’s very clear that nothing can get them to be reasonable, they are completely irrecuperable. The collapse of the PSD Government, which the UDMR unhesitatingly backed even when Dragnea was destroying the judiciary with emergency ordinances, hasn’t made them more responsible. On the contrary, they are increasingly scared by the outlook of losing power and money, they want to make sure they keep the little power that they have left,” Alexandrescu writes.
He considers that two-round elections mean normality, respecting the will of the people and representative democracy, while one-round elections mean the consolidation of the power of local barons, a brake in Romania’s development.
“It’s clear that these two parties must disappear from the political stage for the good of the country. But this must happen at the ballot box, we must throw them at the garbage bin via the popular vote, in the presidential, local and parliamentary elections. And their voters, lied to and deceived for so many years, must receive the fair representation they need. They need parties that would truly represent their interests,” Vlad Alexandrescu concluded. He also posted the picture showing the list of votes in the Senate.
USR, after the Senate rejected the election of the mayors in two rounds of voting: We are asking the parties not only to say they care about the citizens’ will, but also to act as such; electing the mayors in two of voting – the first one of the conditions for voting the next Government
On Wednesday, USR asked the parliamentary parties not only to state that they care about the citizens’ will, but also to act as such, after the Senate rejected the draft law on electing the mayors in two rounds of voting. The party’s representatives stressed that this draft law is a priority for them and is the first condition to support the next Government.
“No more hypocrisy! USR is asking the parliamentary parties not only to say they care about the citizens’ will, but also to act as such! Today’s rejection in the Senate’s plenary session of the USR draft law on electing the mayors in two rounds of voting is the best proof that USR was right and the current Parliament’s configuration does not allow to adopt real and profound reforms which Romania needs. For this reason, it’s necessary to organize early elections as soon as possible!”, USR sated on Wednesday, through a press release.
USR pointed out that “UDMR voted with PSD in order to reject the USR’s draft law, but at the same time, almost half of the PNL, ALDE and Pro Romania parliamentarians were absent”.
“Probably the negotiations for a possible future advantage in a Liberal government are more important than ensuring, all of us, that Romania’s localities are no longer administered by people representing only 10-11% of the inhabitants. Returning to electing the mayors in two rounds of voting is the first condition of the four ones listed by the USR PLUS Alliance in order to vote for the investiture of the Orban Government. It is the first one because it is a key condition for the legitimacy of the local representatives and for recovering democracy at local level”, USR stated, adding that they don’t waive their principles or the four conditions listed in order to vote for the investiture of a transitional Orban Government.
USR’s legislative proposal on electing the mayors in two rounds of voting was rejected on Wednesday by the Senate due to the votes expressed by UDMR and PSD; USR Senator Vlad Alexandrescu stated that PSD and UDMR are not national and democratic parties, but “a clique of local barons who want to lead the mayoralties and the counties like landlords”.
Marcel Ciolacu, after the draft law on electing the mayors in two rounds of voting was rejected: PNL was absent, you should know this when you will hear them breaking their shirt on TV for the sake of the country. Without the votes of the former PSD members, they can’t do anything by themselves
The Deputies’ Chamber’s Speaker Marcel Ciolacu stated on Wednesday that PNL was absent from the voting meeting held at the Senate, where the draft law on electing the mayors in two rounds of voting was rejected. “Or maybe, actually, without the votes of the former PSD members, they can’t do anything by themselves”, Ciolacu said.
“USR’s told PNL they will vote the Government ONLY if the law on electing the mayors in two rounds of voting will pass. What is PNL doing when there’s a voting session at the Senate?! They are absent, of course! Only 10 of 26 PNL senators came to vote! You should know this when you will hear them breaking their shirt on TV for the sake of the country! PSD and UDMR were consistent and voted against the draft law. The draft was REJECTED. But how about the so promised governing?! How about the responsibility towards people?! Or maybe, actually, without the votes of the former PSD members, who are now gone to other parties, they can’t do anything by themselves”, Marcel Ciolacu wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
He says that “one thing is for sure: our fellows from PNL should take some classes in Physics, power is measured in Watts (W), not in Qs!”
