The large modern retail chains reiterate their commitment to promoting local consumption

Over 160 professionals in the fruit and vegetable industry in Romania take part in  

RO-Fruits & Vegetables Show

 

The most appreciated event in the fruit and vegetable industry, Ro-Fruits & Vegetables Show, dedicated exclusively to the players in the industry, will gather on the 21st of November, in Bucharest, over 160 professionals in the sector – buyers from FMCG and HoReCa, local fruit and vegetable producers and industry-oriented service providers.

 

Nine modern retail chains – Auchan, Carrefour, Cora, Kaufland, Mega Image, Penny Martket, Profi, Selgros Cash&Carry, Metro Cash&Carry – will be represented at the event. The speakers at this edition will enter into a dialogue with the fruit and vegetable producers, importers, distributers and service providers present in the hall and will address current topics aimed at the market dynamics and the acquisition models in the modern retail.

 

The aggregate turnover of 10 international store chains present in Romania reaches approximately 13 billion euros, where the share of fruit and vegetable sales in the turnover of a retailer is, on average, 12%. Specifically, the 10 international commercial chains sell, in Romania, fruits and vegetables in an amount that exceeds 1.5 billion euros (Romanian products and imported products), according to a press release submitted by the organizers.

 

“According to our estimates, modern retailers have a market share below 40% of the total sales of fruits and vegetables in Romania (of the total market). What is important to point out is that, in full season, the share of Romanian fruits and vegetables is representative for the sale relationships of the retailers. For instance, in the tomato season, a retailer sells Romanian tomatoes in over 70% of the total tomatoes sold. There is also the area of less seasonal products such as carrots, celery, parsnip, onions or potatoes. Romania is also doing well in this field, the products of local origin enjoying a constant share in sales throughout the year, said Maria Hurduc, organizer of RO Fruits & Vegetables Show.

 

In addition to the information component and networking opportunities, Ro Fruits & Vegetables Show will also benefit from an exhibition area where the providers and the distributors of dedicated products and services will present their products and competences to the retail networks present at the event, but also to the public.

 

It is important for the producers and buyers to interact, to sit together at the negotiating table and to be willing to take the necessary steps to lay the foundations for a durable partnership.
