It is an absolute pleasure to welcome you to this special edition of Nine O’Clock, as we celebrate our nation’s 101 st anniversary.
I, myself being from Suceava have already felt the strong emotions associated with this day by being part of the celebrations of Bucovina’s Union Day, on the 28th of November. The unification of the provinces brought faith and hope in a higher purpose – strength and togetherness. During this time, I always feel grateful for our rich national heritage. In my position as Minister of Culture I am responsible for the legacy we pass on. After a long time, we are now one step closer to finalizing the Heritage Code, which will greatly benefit generations to come.
The 1st of December is a day to celebrate not only the unification of all Romanians, but also the culture and common values which connected us throughout history. Culture is an expression of the soul and embodies many social systems that, in time, become traditions. This day offers the opportunity to remember that and encourage art in all its forms. I am certain that my beliefs are shared by all Romanians, no matter where they come from or where they live now.
Local customs shape national identity and each historical province contributed in an incredible and unique way to what we call today Romania, to what we call today home.
