Fish consumption in the Bucharest restaurants increased by almost 10% in the three quarters of 2019, as compared to the same period of 2018, according to BistroMar representatives. As a result of this overall increase, the sales of the restaurant were 30% higher in summer, as compared to the similar period of 2018. The increase includes both sales of cooked and served products in the restaurant or take-away, as well as sales of raw product from the fishery that is part of BistroMar. Currently, the niche of fish and seafood restaurants in the capital city is very small, with a share of only 1 – 2% of the total.
“We have seen a slight increase in the fish and seafood consumption in the HoReCa segment in the capital city, in the first half of the year, and I estimate that the market will continue to rise until the end of 2019. However, there is definitely room for improvement, all the more since the fish and seafood restaurants have a share of only 1 – 2% in Bucharest. For us, the most important achievements are the increase of sales and the fact that we manage to maintain a very high-quality standard, that we currently are the restaurant that has the greatest variety of wild fish species on the menu, that we always introduce new dishes and we are constantly developing. Another success that we are proud of and is the culmination of all this effort is the inclusion of BistroMar in the restaurant guide Gault&Millau, among the best restaurants in Romania”, said Mihai Cristian Darmanescu, General Manager of BistroMar and founder of Alfredo Seafood.
Recently, BistroMar has been rated and included in the second edition for Romania of the prestigious international restaurant guide, Gault&Millau, which contains a list and reviews of the best restaurants and POP places (which provide a more relaxed or more accessible atmosphere than in restaurants). The guide was founded in France more than 50 years ago, and it currently presents a selection of the best restaurants in over 20 countries on 5 continents. These are rated for the menu, which accounts for 70% of the final score, services, atmosphere, design, value for money etc.
“The last quarter was dedicated to expanding the range of services, products and dishes we offer, so that in the last months we have introduced four new species of wild fish in the BistroMar menu: lobster, carabineros shrimps, black cod, Sockeye wild salmon. Since October we have prepared a few recipes which hopefully will be a pleasant surprise for our customers, and recently we have been listed on takeaway.com, thus managing to be present on the largest home delivery platforms. I think the most important thing is to be as close as possible to people and to contribute to the education of the consumer, a desire which we have also had for almost 20 years for Alfredo Seafood brand. Our goal is for Romanians to understand how important quality fish is in a balanced diet.”, added Cristian Darmanescu.
In the forthcoming period, BistroMar is preparing to launch the home delivery service, in addition to the take-away service.
