The Executive Bureau of the National Liberal Party (PNL) unanimously approved on Friday the party’s supporting Nicusor Dan’s candidacy for Bucharest mayor, said PNL Chairman Ludovic Orban.
“PNL has unanimously voted to support the candidacy of Nicusor Dan for mayor of the capital,” Orban announced at the end of the meeting.
“I thank PNL for the trust they put in me. It is a decision of responsibility that they took in the public interest, given that the party had many potential candidates who could have made good mayors for Bucharest. The public interest prevailed. We have a disastrous Gabriela Firea administration in Bucharest. We discussed the solutions we’ll put forward and which are convergent. Of course more technical discussions will follow in the next period. I want to say that PNL has the best mayors in Romania and their experience is very useful for what we want to do in Bucharest, and I am convinced that in June we will change this administration,” Nicusor Dan said at the press conference held at the end of the meeting of PNL’s Executive Bureau.
He voiced his confidence that he has an important chance to win this year’s local elections.
“Bucharest has been at the center of my concern for 14 years now. 8 years ago I went from zero to 9 percent, four years ago from 9 percent to 30 percent. I am convinced that I stand a major chance to win these elections. It’s a big responsibility. (…) Entering politics is a personal compromise, just ask my wife and daughter, but 14 years ago I set off on a road along which I have learned many things that I am now ready to put into practice,” Nicusor Dan said, according to Agerpres.
Asked about his rallying the support of the USR-PLUS alliance, Nicusor Dan replied: “Everything I did was public and the public announcement I made when I entered this competition for the third time was that I am an independent candidate who seeks the support of the four parties in Bucharest. Which has also happened.”
