Chinese Embassy in Romania, prompt reaction to Gabriela Firea’s call: Donation for hospitals in Bucharest

The Chinese Embassy in Romania donated protective masks and suits for the hospitals in Bucharest, as a response to the call launched by the General Mayor of Bucharest, Gabriela Firea, on Friday.

“Today I sent letters asking for support to the embassies of the United States, Germany, China, Israel and Austria so that they, in their turn, send these letters to the mayoralties of the respective capital cities with a view to asking for the necessary support in this period for the 19 hospitals of Bucharest, considering that the capital of Romania counts for the highest number of patients in the two infectious disease hospitals, Victor Babes and Matei Bals, and also counts for the largest number of quarantined persons, over 550, and this figure keeps growing by the day and, moreover, as many as 4,000 persons are self-isolated, which is why it is expected that the number of cases having already tested positive for the coronavirus will increase,” Firea said in a video posted Friday on Facebook.

“We are in the inner courtyard of the Capital City Hall. I am with Her Excellency, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Romania, Mrs. Jiang Yu, to whom I thank very much for responding very promptly to our request to support the hospitals in Bucharest with all that is needed at this very urgent moment for the protection of the medical professionals: suits, protective masks, disinfectants. It is a first gesture made by Ms. Ambassador, who has already transmitted our request to the Capital City of China, to the Mayor. Surely in the next period we will receive other gestures of solidarity. Madam Ambassador, I knew you would respond promptly, thank you to those who contributed to this first donation for Bucharest, “Gabriela Firea said on Saturday.

“I am very honored to participate with the Mayor General Gabriela Firea at this donation ceremony held today. On this occasion, I would like to express sincere thanks to the Chinese in Romania and to the representatives of the Chinese companies in Romania for this contribution. What is happening today is a form of return of the support received from Romania when the epidemic began in China, when we received messages of support and condolences from the President of Romania, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs,” Ambassador Jiang Yu stated.

“I would very much like the Romanians to know that the Chinese people greatly appreciated the video message transmitted during the epidemic by the Romanian children’s choir “Allegretto”. It had a very strong echo, was appreciated by about 30 million people in China, ” she added.

“Thank you very much, Mrs. Ambassador, we are convinced that other states will answer our requests to help hospitals in the Capital City of Romania, because here are most people with novel coronavirus. Also, here there are the most people in quarantine , almost 600, even today 47 people came to Bucharest who must be accommodated and tests must be carried out, and we have the most people in isolation, almost 4,000 people, in the Bucharest-Ilfov area,” Firea told during the donation ceremony held on Saturday.

“We thank once again the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bucharest for the donation received, we are convinced that together, with solidarity, we will overcome this difficult moment. Stay home if you do not have urgent things to do, protect the elderly, and take lessons with the little ones, because it is a break from going to school, not from education, “Firea added.
