Coronavirus, Saturday update: Romania’s total caseload rises by 151 reaching 19,133

A number of 151 new cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been recorded in Romania since the last update, bringing the total case count to 19,133, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Saturday.

As many as 160 COVID-19 patients are in intensive care.

To date, 1,259 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died in hospitals in Dolj, Bucharest, Iasi, Suceava, Arad, Bacau, Timis, Cluj, Neamt, Hunedoara, Constanta, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Ialomita, Bistrita-Nasaud, Covasna, Dambovita, Vrancea, Galati, Caras-Severin, Mures, Giurgiu, Bihor, Arges, Vaslui, Botosani, Alba, Salaj, Brasov, Mehedinti, Teleorman, Gorj, Prahova, Valcea, Calarasi, Maramures, Olt, Ilfov and Harghita.

 

COVID-19 case count of Romanians abroad at 3,074; out-of-country death toll – 106

 

As many as 3,074 Romanian nationals abroad have been confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus and there have been 106 coronavirus-related deaths of Romanians abroad, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs on Saturday.

According to the cited source, 1,699 coronavirus-infected Romanians are in Italy, 561 – in Spain, 84 – in France, 583 – in Germany, 87 – in the United Kingdom, 28 – in the Netherlands, 2 – in Namibia, 3 – in the USA, 4 – in Austria, 3 – in Belgium, 6 – in Japan, 2 – in Indonesia, 2 – in Switzerland, 2 – in Turkey, and one in each Argentina, Tunisia, Ireland, Luxembourg, UAE, Malta, Brazil and Sweden.

The death toll of out-of-country Romanians since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic is 106: 31 in Italy, 19 in France, 35 in the UK, 9 in Spain, 6 in Germany, 2 in Belgium and one in each Sweden, Switzerland, the USA and Brazil.

The statistics of the 22 Romanians abroad who tested positive for coronavirus and who have been meanwhile declared cured are as follows: 9 in Germany, 9 in France, 2 in Indonesia, one in Luxembourg and one in Tunisia, the GCS also said.

The authorities recommend the Romanians to consider only the information verified through official sources and to call the 0800.800.358 toll-free line for recommendations and other information. This is not an emergency number, but a phone line strictly dedicated to informing the citizens.

Romanians abroad can request information on the prevention and control of the coronavirus on a dedicated line +4021.320.20.20.

As many as 1,384,703 COVID-19 cases have been reported as of May 29 in the EU / EEA, the United Kingdom, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland and Andorra. Most of the cases were registered in Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.

 

Suceava County, Bucharest are Romania’s highest coronavirus caseload areas

 

The north-eastern Suceava County and Bucharest further report Romania’s first and second-highest numbers of coronavirus infection cases: 3,515 and 1,961, respectively, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs.

Romania has a total of 19,133 people confirmed as infected with the novel coronavirus. Of the people confirmed positive, 13,046 have been declared cured and discharged from hospital.

A total of 2,993 people are placed under institutional quarantine in Romania, and another 98,403 are in isolation at home, under medical monitoring.
