Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu said that the protection and observance of the rights, interests, dignity and future of Romanians everywhere is a priority objective of the Foreign Ministry’s activity as far as both foreign policy and bilateral relations are concerned.
“In this year’s special context imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has focused especially on ensuring the rights of Romanians abroad and on providing them support, whether they reside in other states or have been caught there for personal or medical reasons, for studies or work abroad,” the Foreign Ministry said in his message on the occasion of the Day of Romanians Everywhere.
Bogdan Aurescu said that beyond maintaining the continuity of services, the Ministry’s most important mission was to provide consular assistance and facilitate repatriation for those in special situations, respectively to keep them constantly informed on the measures taken by other states, including in the light of the risks and difficulties entailed by traveling abroad.
“It’s been difficult and we have all learned from this crisis. This is the reason why I can say that today the Foreign Ministry has several lessons learned on this level that is so important for the Romanians and the Romanian communities everywhere. We have acted both institutionally, together with other ministries, as well as in close cooperation with the other EU member states and with our NATO allies, in the spirit of responsibility and solidarity, in order to find solutions to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Aurescu.
He went on to remark that during this period, when distances were so much harder to cover, the ties with Romanians everywhere proved to be closer.
“In this spirit, we want to strengthen the relationship with Romanian communities based on experiences that have reinforced our mutual trust. I emphasize, once again, the importance of maintaining and developing ties with Romanians abroad, who contribute each, but especially together, to promoting Romania and the Romanian language, as well as our cultural values. Many happy returns to all Romanians everywhere!,” Bogdan Aurescu wrote.
He also sent wishes of good health, prosperity and confidence to the Romanians abroad.
“On the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Romanians Everywhere, I am glad to have the opportunity to convey my wishes of good health, prosperity and confidence to all Romanians abroad. In moments of joy, as well as in difficult circumstances such as the ones we have been through in recent months, the thoughts and actions of myself and the Foreign Ministry’s staff are directed to the Romanians abroad. This year the priorities have required immediate solutions for extreme or delicate situations and have rendered difficult activities that we considered normal under usual circumstances. The Day of Romanians Everywhere is an anniversary that is all the more so important to celebrate when the soul bonds remain the only bridge with our loved ones and a reconfirmation of the values and identity that connect us wherever we are,” the ForMin said.
