On Thursday, Uber has become available in Constanța, the go-to seaside destination for both Romanians and international tourists. The first rider to try Uber in Constanța is Aylin Cadîr, singer and actress born and raised in Constanța, known for her roles in Romanian produced TV series.

“I take a lot of trips back home and since I don’t have a driving license, Uber is a great way to go around the city, whenever I attend family gatherings or meeting friends out and about. It makes me feel safe and I am happy to finally have this transportation option in my hometown as well, as it makes the city feel a lot more connected,” said Aylin.

Constanța is the 6th Romanian city where Uber is available, after the launch of the service in 2015 in Bucharest, quickly followed by an expansion to Cluj, Timișoara, Brașov and Iași. As in all other Romanian cities, the Uber partner drivers in Constanța are fully licensed to safely drive passengers to their destinations. In Constanța, Uber will launch with its most popular service UberX, which offers access to affordable and safe trips with just a few minutes of waiting time.

“We are happy to launch Uber in Constanța, a place that is so dear to many Romanians who choose it as their holiday destination, especially now, when international travel is limited. We are closely collaborating with local authorities to provide Constanța with safe transportation alternatives for both residents and tourists alike”says Nicoleta Diaconu, General Manager Uber Romania.

How Uber works

  • Download the Uber app on your phone and create an account
  • The app opens with a simple question: “Where to?”
  • Once you add a destination, the app shows you the price for the ride
  • Follow your trip progress and share your location and ETA with friends and family
  • Pay by cash or card
  • Rate your trip or leave other feedback
  • Afterwards, you will receive an email receipt and you can also download your invoice

Safety as one of the top priorities

The general safety features available to passengers in the Uber app include access to driver information such as photo, car model & number and rating. Moreover, riders are able to track their trip in the app, both before the driver’s arrival to the pick-up location and during the ride and can share the trip with a trusted contact.

In addition, Uber rolled out a series of hygienic safety features and policies to help communities move easily throughout the pandemic. Both drivers and riders are now required to wear masks during trips and have to confirm they have understood and are complying to the health & safety measures recommended by world health organizations.

In Romania, as well as in other countries, Uber is using a technology that verifies if drivers are wearing a mask by checking the selfies they take before going online. Drivers have also been provided with disinfectants and the company has equipped most of the vehicles with protective shields for free. All users are reminded in the app that they should wash their hands, sanitize the vehicles, and keep windows open in order to facilitate ventilation during their rides.

Uber’s mission is to create opportunity through movement. We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: how do you get access to a ride at the touch of a button? More than 10 billion trips later, we are building products to get people closer to where they want to be. By changing how people, food, and things move through cities, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities,”a press release issued by the company informs.
