Romania’s newest airline, Animawings, specializing in charters, started operating on the Romanian market, and the first aircraft landed Tuesday afternoon at Henri Coanda International Airport, coming from Zakynthos Island.
“We are particularly pleased to inaugurate today the first flights by Animawings, a true grit project with many challenges for all of us, but also a reason for hope. People need holidays, people need to travel, people need normality. When everyone is full of fear and does not see the predictability for the future, we have the courage, through the stubbornness that we have demonstrated in the last 25 years of business, to go forward and not to take steps back and, what we set out last year, when we started this beautiful project, we brought to the Romanian market: a company whose planes will have the Romanian flag on the fuselage. It is important that the Romanian flag is in the sky of Romania and we do not let the stakes down. We want to invest, we have a partner in this company, we are 75 pct Romanian capital and we have a partner with 25 pct which will probably increase its participation in the next period. It is the largest airline in the Balkans, the Greek national airline Aegean Airlines. Together with our Greek colleagues, we will bring the services, I say, medium to high in aviation. Because of this, we chose the most versatile aircraft, the Airbus A320, which will help us to have success, operationally, I’d say. It is a difficult time for the aviation market, a difficult time for the travel market, but with hope we will also get over this burden because after any storm always comes the sun,” said Cristian Pandel, owner of Memento Group, at the ceremony “Water Salute” of the Animawings aircraft.
For his part, Antonio Stoian, the Animawings general manager, stated that the air operator had issued its air operator’s (AOC) certificate a short time ago, despite the constraints caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
According to him, the first aircraft with which the company operates was leased from Aegean Airlines.
“We started with an Airbus 320 chartered from our Greek partner, Aegean Airlines, their national airline. We hope for a long-term partnership. With them we will help grow the fleet. For now, we are focusing this season to fly around the destinations within our reach in the Mediterranean basin and we expect the situation of the pandemic to relax. We are small, agile and will make step-by-step development, as the situation will allow us and we will adapt accordingly,” added Antonio Stoian, according to Agerpres.
In ten days, the company will operate its first flight to Spain, to Tenerife, and when the restrictions are lifted, flights to Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia will begin.
As a position for Animawings, Tudor Constantinescu, Animawings commercial director, stressed that the target is a premium product.
Launched on the market in January 2020, Animawings is the newest aviation company in our country. This complements the portfolio of established brands of Memento Group: Christian Tour, TUI, TravelCenter, MementoBUS and Hello Romania, with activities in the field of services and tourism. In this project, Memento Group joined forces with Greece’s national company, Aegean Airlines, which took over a 25 pct strategic share of Animawings’ capital in April 2020.
The first aircraft to enter the Animawings fleet, registered with the YR-AGA indication, is an Airbus A320-200, with 174 Economy class seats, with an aircraft-specific configuration in the Aegean Airlines fleet.
