PSD’s Ciolacu: We’ve decided to submit motion of censure in August. Party Congress could be held on August 22

Social Democratic Party  (PSD)  acting chairman Marcel Ciolacu on Thursday informed that the Social Democrats have decided to submit the motion of censure against the Orban Government in August.

“We have decided to submit the motion of censure in August,” said Ciolacu, after the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the PSD.

Cazanciuc: As soon as all signatures will be gathered, we’ll lodge censure motion against the Orban Gov’t

Acting Senate President Robert Cazanciuc (photo R) said on Thursday that the motion to censure the Orban government will be lodged as soon as all necessary signatures are gathered.

“The censure motion had to be filed yesterday (Wednesday, ed. n.) because every day with this Government, unfortunately, means a cost for the Romanian people, a cost for their health, a cost for the economy. The censure motion should have been filed yesterday, but we must gather all the signatures, all the forces that want to get rid of this Government as soon as possible,” Cazanciuc said before the meeting of the Social Democratic Party (PSD)’s National Executive Committee (CExN).

He claimed that almost all the signatures for the censure motion are collected.

Asked if a PSD congress should be held before the motion is submitted, Cazanciuc said “Surely we need a congress, as soon as possible, under safe conditions, that allows the organization. (…) It takes a congress to stabilize the party leadership and gather all the energies around a team. The team must operate with the engines revved. You see that a very firm position is needed, we need to take down this Government as quickly as possible and for that we need all the energies to be behind a team,” the Social Democrat said, according to Agerpres.

The Acting president of the opposition’s Social Democratic Party (PSD), Marcel Ciolacu, said on Tuesday night at the public television TVR1, he was convinced that the Ludovic Orban Government would be dismissed through a censure motion, claiming that the Save Romania Union (USR) too would vote on such a document.

“It falls on the motion anyway. (…) Whether I get it or not get to know Victor Ponta (Pro Romania party’s head, former Prime Minister on behalf of the PSD, ed. n.), Victor Ponta may not vote for this motion, because if he doesn’t vote for it it means that the dodge in Bucharest exists. Who in the political forces now can afford not to vote for the censure motion?! I am firmly convinced that the USR will vote for it too,” Ciolacu said pointing out that there were 202 votes from the PSD for the motion.

He mentioned that he had discussions with Victor Ponta regarding the filing of the no confidence vote.

Ciolacu said that if the censure motion clears the Parliament, a proposal for a prime minister will be made.

PSD Congress could take place on August 22. Marcel Ciolacu: We’ve started internal procedures

PSD’s acting chairman Marcel Ciolacu on Thursday stated that the party approves at its National Executive Committee (CExN) meeting the launch of the internal procedures for the congress, and that they could take place on August 22.

“Today we have started the internal procedures will take place at this congress. Moreover, the other day I sent an address to Minister Arafat and I am waiting for his answer, what are the conditions for organising this congress. It was normal to start the procedures,” said Ciolacu, at the end of the PSD CExN meeting.

He added that the date of August 22 had been taken into account for the organisation of this congress, but it remains to be seen if this will be possible.
