Orange’s 5G data network covers the entire city of Bucharest, according to a press statement released on Monday by the communications operator.
The capital city thus becomes the first city in Romania covered by Orange’s 5G network, according to the operator, who emphasises that in Bucharest customers on a 5G data subscription and a compatible phone can enjoy maximum download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.
Outside Bucharest, Orange’s 5G network is also available at Otopeni and Voluntari, in Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara, Brasov, Constanta and Mamaia.
Orange mentions that 5G technology offers superior speed and reduced response time in terms of video and game consumption, but also for automation projects, IoT, Smart City or the development of autonomous cars.
The expansion of the 5G network adds to the constant investments that Orange has been conducting in the development of Romania’s communications infrastructure. At the end of Q2 2020, amid a 40-percent surge in mobile data consumption y-o-y, 98.86 percent of the Romanian population enjoyed 4G coverage in the Orange network, while 4G + coverage included 59.63 percent of the country’s population.
The network’s performance is reported to have been acknowledged by the independent auditor Ookla, who, based on the results from the Romanian users of the SpeedTest application, has designated Orange as the network with the fastest mobile internet and the most extensive coverage in Romania.
