President Iohannis: The decision to open schools, although not easy, is correct and necessary

President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday that the decision to open schools, although not an easy one, was correct and necessary. He encouraged parents to send their children to school.

“The school starts on September 14 in completely different conditions. At the moment we have only a few localities where the school will take place exclusively online, and in others it will take place in a hybrid system. It is very important to realize that by following the basic rules, each contributes to the well-being of the entire community, ” the head of state said in a press conference held at the Cotroceni Palace.

“Limiting access to education has major negative consequences and affects the future for all of us. The decision to open schools, although not easy, is correct and necessary. I highlight the efforts of local authorities to provide schools with everything they need. I thank the teachers and school leaders, ”said Iohannis.

“I also address to the parents, who are concerned and worried about how things will evolve: I encourage you to send your children to school. If we follow all the rules, we will get over this situation, “he added.

He stressed that central and local authorities have implemented procedures to limit the risks of transmission of COVID 19, but their effectiveness depends on the collaboration of teachers, students, teachers.

“The second issue I want to address is the local elections. These elections have already been postponed, now measures have been taken to protect citizens. We do not know how long the pandemic will last and that is why the local elections cannot be postponed indefinitely. The provisional situation and lack of legitimacy are detrimental to democracy, ”Iohannis added.
