Managing Partner Perry Zizzi to lead the M&A practice in Dentons Bucharest

Romania is the third country in CEE based on number of M&A transactions

Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, announces it has appointed Managing Partner Perry Zizzi – one of the most experienced M&A lawyers in the CEE region – as the Head of the M&A practice in Romania, boasting a strong team of 10 lawyers, including 4 partners and 1 counsel.

“According to Dentons’ global intelligence data, Romania is third most attractive country in CEE for M&A deals after Poland and Czech Republic, with top sectors being Technology Media Telecom (TMT), Transportation, Energy and Real Estate. While over the past five years, Romania has seen only a quarter of the M&A transactions compared to Poland, it is a country with great potential being eyed by investors and will see an increased number of transactions in the coming period. At Dentons, we plan to have an active role in connecting buyers with sellers and advising on strategic M&As on the local market,” added Perry Zizzi, the Managing Partner of Dentons Romania and head of the M&A local practice.

Perry’s career as an M&A lawyer spans 25 years and multiple jurisdictions including the USA, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, where he has advised buyers, sellers and other parties on acquisitions, sales and joint ventures.

His expertise in real estate M&A is particularly well-known, and he has advised in many other sectors such as banking/financial services, TMT, energy, industrial, consumer goods and Horeca. With his team, Perry negotiated the very first warranty and indemnity insurance policy ever issued for a transaction in Romania in connection with an acquisition by a client in 2015. The local team’s most recent M&A project relates to having advised Turkish investment fund TC Capital on a EUR 20 million agricultural sector acquisition in Romania.

“Dentons has been ranked by Bloomberg Global as the number one law firm in Eastern Europe based on number of transactions it has advised in the first half of 2020. As part of our Dentons 2.0 strategy, our goal is to build the strongest M&A practice in Romania within the next two years. Working closely with our market leading M&A practice in Europe — and with an eye to strategic hires in our Bucharest office — we will grow our share of the M&A market locally and become the first choice of major private equity firms, as well as sellers”, added Perry.

Over his many years as an M&A practitioner, Perry has advised clients such as TPG, Lone Star, Cerberus, GIC (the Singaporean state investment fund), CEE Equity, Clayton Dubilier & Rice, Doughty Hanson, York Capital Management, Abris and Rutledge Capital.

Perry is a member of the Board of Directors of the Netherlands- Romanian Chamber of Commerce. He received his law degree from Columbia Law School in 1995.

Dentons’ legal team in Bucharest, under the leadership of Managing Partner Perry Zizzi, provides clients with a results-oriented approach and efficient legal solutions. In over two decades of activity in Romania, the firm has advised on cornerstone deals for domestic and international clients across multiple sectors. Key practice areas include Banking and Finance, Capital Markets, Real Estate, Corporate, Employment, Energy and Infrastructure, Competition and Litigation.
