President Iohannis : Valeriu Gheorghita to coordinate national COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Romania

The vaccination strategy will be made public next week

Valeriu Gheorghita is the coordinator of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination campaign, President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

“Today we’ve had the third meeting with the authorities and experts in the field for the preparation of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19. Romania, as part of the European agreements, must be prepared to manage this campaign. After drawing up a COVID-19 vaccination strategy, which will be made public next week, the officials have started the actual organisation in order to effectively implement the strategy. At today’s meeting, a coordinator for the nationwide vaccination campaign was appointed: Mr Valeriu Gheorghita, infectious disease primary care physician at the Central Military Hospital,” said Iohannis.

He reiterated that vaccination will begin in stages.

“It is, in the first phase, about the medical staff, those in risk groups, but also workers in education, water supply. Special aspects were taken into account – the vaccination teams and the locations where the vaccination will take place. We asked the public authorities to communicate the measures clearly and transparently to the population. I think it is important to fight fake news “, the president underlined.

Klaus Iohannis also stated that “we must join forces to implement an effective vaccination campaign that will allow us to return to normal as soon as possible”.

“I am optimistic, because we are already beginning to see the effects of the measures taken, but be careful, to be sure of results, we must maintain the current course, respect the rules and I am sure that in two weeks we will see even better results,” he concluded.

President Klaus Iohannis convened a meeting on Tuesday to assess and present measures to manage the COVID-19 epidemic.

The meeting was attended by: the Prime Minister of Romania, Ludovic Orban; the Minister of National Defense, Nicolae Ciucă; the Minister of Health, Nelu Tătaru; the head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Raed Arafat; Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health, General Dr. Ionel Paul Oprea; Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health, Andrei Baciu.
