GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 case count rises by 5.554; nationwide tests amount to 16.225 in the last 24 hours

As many as 5,554 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, following the conduct of 16,225 tests at the national level, informs the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) on Sunday.

The above-mentioned are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the GCS states. 471,536 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania. As many as 348,852 people were declared cured.

According to the GCS, 4,097,782 tests have been processed nationwide. Of these, 16,225 were performed in the last 24 hours – 9,877 based on case definition and medical protocol and 6,348 upon request.


1,250 patients infected with COVID-19 in ICUs, 13,200 people admitted to hospitals, 787 retest positive


As many as 13,200 people with COVID-19 are admitted to health facilities, of which 1,250 are in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Sunday.

Countrywide, 48,541 people confirmed with infection with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home and 11,978 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 69,194 people are in quarantine at home and 68 in institutionalized quarantine.

A number of 787 people were positively reconfirmed with COVID-19 following the re-testing, apart from newly confirmed cases, the GCS informs.


148 persons infected with SARS-CoV-2 have died, total death toll hits 11.193


Another 148 people – 86 men and 62 women – infected with the novel coronavirus have died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 11,193, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Sunday.

The GCS informs that a death was recorded in the age group 10-19 years; another in the age category 30-39 years; five in the 40-49 age category; 11 in the 50-59 age category; 31 in the 60-69 age category; 67 to 70-79 years and 32 to over 80.

Of those who died in the last 24 hours, 147 had a medical history, whilst one patient had no comorbidities.


Infection rate over 7 in Constanta, Sibiu counties, 6.46 in Bucharest


In the counties of Constanta and Sibiu, a rate of infection with SARS-CoV-2 of more than 7 per thousand inhabitants is maintained in the last two weeks, according to the report submitted on Sunday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).

The county of Constanta ranks first in the infection rate with the novel coronavirus, with 7.58, compared to 7.54 the previous day, seconded by Sibiu County, with 7.13, down from the previous day, when it registered 7.37, and Bucharest, 6.46, down from the previous day, when it scored 6.61.

Bucharest – 886 and the counties of Prahova – 356, Brasov – 346, Arges – 277, Ilfov – 258, Iasi – 249, Sibiu – 229, Cluj – 213, Dolj – 212 are the areas with the most newly confirmed cases of coronavirus compared to the last report, according to GCS.

Most cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been recorded so far in Bucharest – 67,017 and in the counties of Cluj – 21,569, Iasi – 19,912, Prahova – 19,122, Timis – 18,967 and Brasov – 18,964, according to GCS.
