GCS: 5.231 new cases of COVID-19 in Romania, 134 deaths, 1.289 patients admitted to ICUs; 17.530 tests carried out in the past 24 hours

A number of 5,231 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the past 24 hours as there were 17,530 tests carried out at the national level, the Strategic Communication (GCS) informed on Sunday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, says GCS.

In Romania, 513,576 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed so far.

A total of 405,612 people were declared cured.

According to the GCS, to date, 4,255,481 tests have been processed nationwide. Of these, 17,530 were performed in the past 24 hours – 11,391 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 6,139 upon request.

Since the last information provided by GCS, the results of 26 tests previously processed in the past 24 hours and submitted by 6 December have been reported.

 

134 persons infected with SARS-CoV-2 died in the past 24 hours

 

A number of 134 people infected with the novel coronavirus have died in the past 24 hours, the total number of deaths reaching 12,320 in Romania, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Sunday.

According to the same source, between December 5 (10.00 am) and December 6 (10.00 am), 134 deaths (89 men and 45 women) were reported, of some patients infected with the novel coronavirus, hospitalized in Alba, Arad , Bacau, Botosani, Braila, Brasov, Calarasi, Caras-Severin, Cluj, Constanta, Dambovita, Dolj, Gorj, Harghita, Hunedoara, Ialomita, Iasi, Maramures, Mehedinti, Mures, Olt, Prahiu, Satu Mare, Vaslui, Valcea, Vrancea, Ilfov and the Municipality of Bucharest.

Of these, four deaths were recorded in the 40-49 years age category, 13 deaths in the 50-59 years age category, 38 deaths in the 60-69 years age category, 48 deaths in the 70-79 years age category and 31 deaths in the over 80 years age category.

According to the GCS, 127 of the deaths were from comorbidities, no comorbidities were found for five deceased patients, and no comorbidities have been reported for two deceased patients to date.

 

Record number of patients admitted to the ICU – 1,289; number of persons hospitalized – 12,587

 

A number of 12,587 people infected with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of which 1,289 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group informed on Sunday.

In Romania, 45,185 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in self-isolation at home and 11,932 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 68,737 people are in quarantine at home and 106 in institutionalized quarantine.

 

Infection rate up to 7.26pct in Ilfov County

 

The infection rate with the novel coronavirus increased in Ilfov County, reaching 7.26 per thousand inhabitants on Sunday.

According to the latest report sent by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), Ilfov County ranks first in the country at the infection rate of 7.26, up from the previous day when there was an incidence of 6.82 cases.

Constanta County also sees a slight increase from 7.15, as recorded on Saturday, to 7.17 per thousand inhabitants.

Incidence of over 5 per thousand inhabitants is still seen in Bucharest – 5.8, as well as the counties of Cluj – 5.58, Brasov – 5.02 and Sibiu – 5.00.

The counties with a low incidence of infections per thousand inhabitants in the last two weeks are Harghita – 1.09; Olt – 1.17 and Gorj – 1.2.
