Suciu Popa successfully assisted Gianni Versace in an important trademark protection case

Suciu Popa successfully assisted Gianni Versace, the owner of the Versace trademarks and one of the world’s most important luxury brands, in a series of judiciary and extra-judiciary procedures having as scope the defence of its iconic trademarks, against an unauthorized producer and distributor based in the European Union.

The assistance provided by Suciu Popa proposed the implementation an innovative approach of the matters pertaining to the application of Regulation (EU) 2017/1001 on the European Union trade mark and of the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 100/2005 ensuring the protection of industrial property rights, including the standard of evidence for genuine use of the trademark and the conflict with signs registered in parallel by the respective unauthorized producer and distributor with EUIPO. The Suciu Popa team assigned to this case included lawyers from the firm’s Intellectual Property and Dispute Resolution departments, being led by Andrei Georgescu, Partner within the Intellectual Property Department and Radu Chiran, Managing Associate within the Dispute Resolution Department, Iulia Nitulescu, Senior Associate and Paul Manaila, Associate within the Dispute Resolution Department being also involved.
