A number of 2,489 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been reported in the last 24 hours, following 7,116 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Monday.
These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, says GCS.
So far, 593,783 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania.
A total of 501,896 people were declared cured.
According to GCS, to date, 4,607,030 tests have been processed nationwide. Of these, 7,116 were performed in the last 24 hours, 5,310 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 1,806 upon request.
Also, since the previous report, the results of 69 tests processed before the last 24 hours and transmitted until December 21 have been included in the report.
87 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 die in 24 hours
A number of 87 people (45 men and 42 women) infected with the new coronavirus have died in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths reaching 14,481, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday.
According to the GCS, 81 of the deaths were reported in patients with comorbidities, no comorbidities were reported for five patients, and no comorbidities were reported for one patient to date.
1,255 ICU patients; 11,430 people hospitalized
A number of 11,430 people infected with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of whom 1,255 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Monday.
In Romania, 41,342 people confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home and 10,738 are in institutionalized isolation.
333 persons reconfirmed with COVID-19
A number of 333 people were positively reconfirmed to be infected with COVID-19 following retesting, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday.

Infection rate in Ilfov 6.73pct per thousand inhabitants; slight drop in the Capital City
The Ilfov County reported a coronavirus infection rate, cumulated at 14 days, of 6.73 per thousand inhabitants, slightly higher than the previous day, when it recorded 6.7 per thousand inhabitants, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Monday.
Next is Bucharest, with 6.03 per thousand inhabitants, less compared to the previous day, when the incidence was 6.16 per thousand inhabitants, and Constanta County with 4.97 per thousand inhabitants, less compared to Sunday, when it had 5.15.
A high incidence of cases per thousand inhabitants was also registered in the Brasov – 4.59, Cluj – 4.56 and Timis – 4.02 counties.
A low infection rate with SARS-CoV-2 was registered in the Harghita – 0.68, Gorj – 0.77, Vrancea – 1.05 and Olt – 1.05 counties.
Also in the green area are the Neamt – 1.28, Salaj – 1.28, Covasna – 1.34 and Suceava – 1.44 counties.
Capital City – most new cases – 341; Ilfov County – 169
The areas with the most newly confirmed cases of coronavirus compared to the last report are Bucharest – 341 and Ilfov – 169, Arges – 138, Timis – 128, Constanta – 128, Galati – 125 and Iasi – 109 counties, according to the latest report by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), on Monday.
The fewest cases were registered in the counties of Bistrita-Nasaud – 2, Satu Mare – 3, Harghita – 4, Caras-Severin – 5, Covasna – 9 and Suceava – 9.
Data from Salaj County were not reported.
Bucharest – 92,594 SARS-CoV-2 cases since beginning of pandemic; Cluj, Iasi counties follow
Most cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been registered, since the beginning of the pandemic and until now, in Bucharest – 92,594 and in the counties of Cluj – 27,553 and Iasi – 25,420, according to data transmitted on Monday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).
Counties with a large number of cases are Constanta – 24,452, Brasov – 23,839, Timisoara – 23,846 and Prahova – 22,843.

The number of Romanians abroad confirmed with the novel coronavirus remained at 7,036, and that of deaths at 128, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Monday.
Among the Romanian citizens confirmed with the novel coronavirus, 798 were declared cured.
