A total of 5,009 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been registered in the last 24 hours, following 23,834 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (CGS) reported on Tuesday.
These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, says GCS.
So far, 598,792 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania.
A total of 508,979 people have been declared cured.
According to the GCS, to date, 4,630,874 tests have been processed at the national level. Of these, 23,834 were performed in the last 24 hours, 16,036 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 7,798 upon request.
Also, since the previous GCS report, the results of 10 tests processed before the last 24 hours and sent by December 22 have been reported.
1,019 persons reconfirmed to be infected with COVID-19
A number of 1,019 people were reconfirmed to be infected with COVID-19 following a retest, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Tuesday.

155 people infected with novel coronavirus have died in 24 hours
A number of 155 people (101 men and 54 women) infected with the novel coronavirus have died in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths reaching 14,636, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Tuesday.
According to the GCS, 151 deaths were reported in patients who had comorbidities, for one no comorbidities were recorded, and for another three no comorbidities have been reported so far.
1,252 patients in ICU; hospitalized people – 11,117
A number of 11,117 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of whom 1,252 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Tuesday.
In Romania, 40,211 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in isolation at home and 10,412 are in institutionalized isolation.
Also, 57,815 people are in quarantine at home and 162 in institutionalized quarantine.
The Capital City – the largest number of new cases – 819; Cluj – 241
The areas with the most newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection compared to the last report are Bucharest – 819 and Cluj – 341, Timis – 301, Iasi – 225, Ilfov – 218, Prahova – 172, Galati – 165, Constanta – 148 and Brasov – 138 counties, according to the data reported, on Tuesday, by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).
The fewest cases were registered in the counties of Harghita – 12, Gorj – 19, Valcea – 21, Covasna – 25 and Mehedinti – 29.
Infection rate in Ilfov – 6.38 per 1,000 people; Bucharest – 5.59
Ilfov County registers an infection rate with the novel coronavirus, cumulated at 14 days, of 6.38 per thousand inhabitants, decreasing compared to the previous day, when it had 6.73 per thousand inhabitants, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs on Tuesday.
On the next places are Bucharest, with 5.59 per thousand inhabitants, decreasing compared to the previous day, when the incidence was 6.03 per thousand inhabitants, and Constanta County with 4.66 per thousand inhabitants, decreasing compared to Monday, when it had 4.97.
A high incidence of cases per thousand inhabitants is also registered in the counties of Brasov – 4.44, Cluj – 4.39 and Timis – 4.
A low infection rate with SARS-CoV-2 is registered in Harghita counties – 0.65, Gorj – 0.74, Olt – 0.94 and Vrancea – 1.05.
Also in the green area are the counties of Neamt – 1.21, Covasna – 1.27, Salaj – 1.31, Suceava – 1.4.
Bucharest – 93,413 cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections since beginning of pandemic; Cluj, Iasi counties follow
Most cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have been registered, since the beginning of the pandemic and until now, in Bucharest – 93,413 and in the counties of Cluj – 27,894 and Iasi – 25,645, according to data transmitted on Tuesday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).
Counties with a large number of cases are Constanta – 24,600, Brasov – 23,977, Timis – 24,147 and Prahova – 23,015.
