President Iohannis appoints Florin Citu as Prime Minister designate

President Klaus Iohannis designated, on Tuesday, Florin Citu as a candidate for the position of Prime Minister.

Florin Citu is the proposal for Prime Minister of the coalition formed by the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union – Party of Liberty, Unity and Solidarity (USR PLUS), and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR).

The head of state spoke, in the statement made at the Cotroceni Palace, of the past consultations, but also of the fact that the new coalition proved it has a majority in Parliament.

“Last week, at the first round of consultations, I said there are still some days necessary for things to crystallize. And they have. In the meantime, a coalition formed by the PNL, USR PLUS and UDMR was formalized, it has already proven its majority in the Romanian Parliament and today, on the occasion of the consultations, the leaders of the formations that form the center-right coalition have presented themselves together and proposed a candidate for the position of Prime Minister. Thus, taking all this into consideration, I have decided to designate Mr. Florin Citu for the position of Prime Minister,” said Iohannis at the Cotroceni Palace.


PM-designate Citu: I’ll do my best to have a stable, long-lasting governing


The Prime Minister-designate, Florin Citu, on Tuesday said that he would do everything possible to have “a stable and long-lasting governing”.

“I want to assure the Romanians that I realize and know the difficult period Romania is going through and I want to assure them that I will do everything possible to have a stable and long-lasting governing,” Florin Citu said on Tuesday evening, after being announced by President Klaus Iohannis as Prime Minister-designate.

The PM-designate, Florin Citu, declared on Tuesday that it is the role of the new Government to quickly manage the health and economic crisis.

“At the same time, I would like to make a firm statement, Mister President, here. Romania is going through a double crisis during this time, a health and economic one. It is the role of this Government to go as quickly as possible through this health crisis, with as little costs as possible for Romanians, to rearrange the economy, on its own legs, into a healthy one”, Citu highlighted.

The PM-designate added that he will present the new governing formula with a “team of professionals”.

“Each minister will have clear objectives from the Prime Minister, which will be monitored on a quarterly basis. I will make sure that these objectives will be achieved”, Citu also declared.

Furthermore, the PM-designate assured the head of state of a “transparent and honest” partnership.

“Together, we have the same objective – the development of Romania”, he said, according to Agerpres.
