GCS: 4.310 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 recorded in Romania in the past 24 hours after 27.653 tests

A number of 4,310 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the past 24 hours, following the performance of 27,653 tests at the national level, the Strategic Communication (GCS) informed on Thursday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, says GCS.

So far, 608,561 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania.

A total of 523,829 people were declared cured.

According to GCS, to date, 4,689,628 tests have been processed at the national level. Of these, 27,653 were performed in the past 24 hours, 19,032 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 8,621 upon request.

Also, since the last information made by GCS, the results of 5,261 tests processed before the past 24 hours and transmitted until December 24 have been reported.


146 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 die in last 24 hours


A number of 146 people infected with the new coronavirus have died in the last 24 hours, the total number of deaths reaching 14,912, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Thursday.

One death was registered in the age category 30-39 years, three in the age category 40-49 years, 12 in the age category 50-59 years, 37 in the age category 60-69 years, 55 in the category 70-79 years and 38 in the category of over 80 years.

According to the GCS, 140 of the deaths were reported in patients with comorbidities, no comorbidities were reported in two patients, and no comorbidities were reported in four patients to date.


1,234 patients in ICU; hospitalized people – 10,351


A number of 10,351 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of whom 1,234 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group informed on Thursday.

In Romania, 39,537 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home and 10,047 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 59,018 people are in quarantine at home and 141 in institutionalized quarantine.
