As many as 2,156 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Romania were recorded in the last 24 hours following more than 15,000 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Sunday.
These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.
As of Sunday, 693,644 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania. Of these, 622,414 people were declared cured.
To date, 5,164,549 RT-PCR tests and 43,083 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationally.
In the last 24 hours, 11,524 RT-PCR tests were performed (6,529 based on case definition and medical protocol and 4,995 on request) and 3,392 rapid antigen tests.
1,076 COVID-19 patients in intensive care out of 8,552 hospitalisations
As many as 8,552 people with COVID-19 are hospitalised in Romania at specialist care facilities, out of which 1,076 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Sunday.
In Romania, 37,146 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home, and 8,426 are in institutional isolation. Also, 60,554 people are in quarantine at home, and 84 in institutional quarantine.

Another 57 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in Romania in the last 24 hours, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Sunday.
It is about 41 men and 16 women – people hospitalised in the counties of Arad, Arges, Baca, Bihor, Braila, Bistrita-Nasaud, Botosani, Buzsu, Caras-Severin, Calarasi, Constanta, Galati, Hunedoara, Mures, Olt, Salaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Timis, Vaslui, and Bucharest City.
Of these, one death was in the age class 30-39 years, one in the age class 40-49 years, two in the age class 50-59 years, 15 in the age cclass 60-69 years, 18 in age class 70-79 years, and 20 in people over 80.
According to GCS, 55 of the deaths were in patients with comorbidities, while two patients had no underlying diseases.
Bucharest City, three counties still in COVID-19 red zone
Ilfov County is reporting a 14-day notification rate of newly reported COVID-19 cases per 1,000 population of 4.38 cases per 1,000 population, slightly lower than the previous day’s 4.53, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Sunday.
Also in the red zone there is Timis County, with 4.52 cases per 1,000 population, same as in the previous day; Cluj County at 3.86, down from the previous day’s 4.02, and Bucharest City, with a rate of 3.62 cases per 1,000 population, up from Saturday’s 3.56.
On the other hand, 14 counties are in the green zone, with the lowest rates being reported by the counties of Olt – 0.72; Harghita – 0.72; Vrancea – 0.79; Buzau – 0.87, and Gorj – 0.92.
Law enforcement issues 5,337 COVID-19 fines in last 24 hours amounting to 924,857 lei
In the last 24 hours, law enforcement in Romania issued 5,337 fines amounting to 924,857 lei for violations of Law 55/2020 on measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Sunday.
The Police also found five instances of thwarting disease control, criminalised under Article 352 of the Criminal Code, on Saturday.
In the last 24 hours, 1,541 calls were reported to the 112 emergency line.
The Interior Ministry has been operating since July 4 the 0800.800.165 toll-free line where violations of the COVID-19 health protection norms can be reported.
The calls are taken over by a dispatcher in an integrated system and distributed locally for verification of the notified aspects.
