Senate and the Chamber of Deputies convene in joint session: Parliamentarians’ special pensions have been repealed

Parliament adopted in plenary session, on Wednesday, the repeal of the senators’ and deputies’ special pensions.

There were 357 votes in favor.

A number of 30 parliamentarians did not cast their vote.

“Today we are repairing a little, from a huge repair that the pension system in Romania needs. We no longer have money for the special pensions, and not only because of morality they should not exist. The coalition will aim to eliminate special pensions. Yes, you can protest, you are in the Opposition, but at least you have understood that special pensions must be eliminated. This is the policy of the ruling coalition, “said USR President Dan Barna.

PNL President Ludovic Orban has asked Parliament to vote on the abolition of special pensions for senators and deputies.

“We must vote to abolish special pensions for parliamentarians, because it is not fair for them to have special pensions, while millions of Romanians live on pensions based on contributiveness. Today is the first step, we must put in order the pension legislation, we must have the courage to do justice to the people,” Orban stated.
