From classical and jazz to composition and production, women have overcome enormous limits in music over the centuries, but a recent study by EBU Media Intelligence Service shows that women make up only 30% of the entire workforce in the music industry.
This topic will also be addressed during the sixth edition of the Mastering The Music Business 2021 (MMB) conference, which will transform Bucharest into the zero kilometer of the music industry.
One of the most anticipated debates at MMB is Women in Music in which guests from around the world address topics such as the role of women in the music industry, opportunities for them, successful personal stories, but also statistics on the number of women in different fields of activity.
Anca Lupeș, the founder of the MMB conference, underlined the fact that “the music industry in Romania and not only must become more diverse, fairer and more inclusive for the benefit of all. Through our guests, but also through a series of dedicated debates and workshops, we will celebrate women’s achievements as artists, performers, composers or producers and we will address difficult but necessary topics to promote a fair and sustainable music industry. ”
This year’s guests include Arielle Fischer (DE), Artist and Label Partnership Manager for Eastern Europe at Spotify, Neeta Ragoowansi (USA), President of the USA Music Managers Forum and Global Co-Chair Women in Music, Kornelia Binicewicz (PL ), the founder of the brand Ladies on Records and Pia Hoffman (DE), composer and supervisor of film music.
Arielle Fischer is the first point of contact for artists and labels in new and emerging markets in CEE, Turkey and Israel. She develops a framework for industry cadence, ideates and executes marketing campaigns based on regional creators and data learning, holds masterclasses for partners on how to use Spotify tools and shares best practices to get the most out of the platform. At MMB 2021, Arielle will hold a workshop for Romanian artists who want to learn how to build their presence on Spotify and how to use the platform in their favor.

Neeta Ragoowansi is an entertainment lawyer and business professional musical for over 25 years. Through her work, Neeta helps women in music, technology and law field to use their power to create the lives, businesses and careers they love and to protect and monetize their creative projects and intellectual property. In addition to many other roles, Neeta serves on the boards of Women in Music and The American Bar Association’s Forum on Entertainment and Sports Law.
Kornelia Binicewicz is a music collector, cultural anthropologist, founder of the Ladies on Records brand, DJ and explorer of female music from the ’60s,’ 70s and ’80s. He lives on an island near Istanbul and travels around the world, searching for fascinating music and impressive stories to share. Her passion for music brought her to Turkey, where she began to explore the music scene of women in Turkey, an undiscovered world.
