Deputies at the plenary sitting on Wednesday adopted, with a majority of votes, the Statement regarding some anti-Semitic acts and attempts to rehabilitate war criminals that have been seen in Romania lately.
The document has been read at the plenary sitting by the President of the Deputies Chamber, Ludovic Orban, and underscored that the Deputies in the Romanian Parliament are carefully watching the increase in the number of such anti-Semitic acts in Romania, attempts of rehabilitating war criminals and the virulent attacks against the State Jewish Theatre, its manager and the entire staff of this institution of culture.
Considering the recent acts and the danger that they represent for the wide audience, the need of strengthening policies to prevent any form of anti-Semitism from ever manifesting itself, and also the imperative of a strong political commitment to act in a determined manner against all the channels that promote such perception, based on hate against Jews, the Deputies Chamber firmly condemns the virulent attack against the Jewish State Theatre and any form of anti-Semitism, and protests against the attempts to rehabilitate the Iron Guard movement, Ion Antonescu and/or other war criminals, reaffirms the determination of its members to support while continuing the legislative and institutional plan the actions meant to combat any form and manifestations of anti-Semitism.
At the same time, the Chamber of Deputies requests the executive power and the judiciary to take all the necessary measures for the implementation of Law no. 157/2018 on some measures for preventing and combating anti-Semitism and the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 31/2002 on the prohibition of fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic organizations, symbols and deeds and the promotion of the cult of persons guilty of committing crimes of genocide against humanity and war crimes.
