GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 5.808 in the past 24 hours following over 41,000 tests nationwide

As many as 5,808 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Romania were recorded in the last 24 hours following over 41,000 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Friday.

These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.

As of Friday, 964,726 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania. Of these, 862,137 were declared cured.

To date, 6,773,863 RT-PCR tests and 626,221 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, 29,258 RT-PCR tests were performed (18,430 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 11,471 on request) and 12,312 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 1,072 people were reconfirmed positive.


1,454 COVID-19 patients in intensive care out of 13,476 hospitalisations


As many as 13,476 people with COVID-19 are hospitalised in Romania at specialist care facilities, out of whom 1,454 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Friday.

In Romania, 68,924 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home and 16,343 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 58,218 people are in quarantine at home and 108 in institutional quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 4,925 calls were reported to the 112 emergency line and 617 to the 0800 800 358 toll-free info line.


145 persons infected with coronavirus died in past 24 hours; death toll 23,819


A number of 145 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have died in the past 24 hours, according to data reported on Friday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).

According to GCS, 82 men and 63 women died in the reference interval.

136 of the registered deaths were of patients who had comorbidities, two deceased patients did not have any associated diseases, and for seven deceased patients there haven’t been any comorbidites reported so far.

Since the beginning of the pandemic and until now, 23,819 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

At the same time, 189 Romanian citizens abroad died due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Worldwide, up to April 1, 2,791,055 people have died until now.
