As many as 5,407 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the past 24 hours, with more than 39,000 tests being carried out, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Wednesday.
These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the source said.
As of Wednesday, 988,624 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus had been confirmed in Romania. Of these, 885,710 were declared cured, the GCS said.
Countrywide, 6,878,550 RT-PCR tests and 672,323 rapid antigenic tests have been processed so far.
In the last 24 hours, 28,730 RT-PCR tests (17,135 based on case definition and medical protocol and 11,595 on request) and 11,229 rapid antigenic tests were performed.
Moreover, since the last information made by the GCS, the results of seven RT-PCR tests processed before the last 24 hours and transmitted by Wednesday have been reported.
Distinct from newly confirmed cases, 1,246 people retested positive.
175 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have died in the past 24 hours taking total death toll to 24,561
As many as 175 people – 86 men and 89 women – infected with SARS-CoV-2 have died in the past 24 hours, according to data from the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) on Wednesday.
Two deaths were recorded in the age category 20 to 29 years, one death in the age category 30 – 39 years, eight in the age category 40 – 49 years, 12 in the age category 50 – 59 years, 43 in the age category 60 – 69 years, 63 in the age category 70 to 79 years and 46 in the category over 80 years.
According to GCS, 166 of the deaths were recorded in patients with comorbidities, four deceased patients had no comorbidities, and no comorbidities were reported to date for 5 dead persons.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 24,561 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania since the beginning of the pandemic, along with 189 Romanian citizens abroad.
1,487 patients in ICU, from 13,907 people admitted
A number of 13,907 people with COVID-19 have been admitted in hospitals, of which 1,487 in Intensive Care Units, announced, on Wednesday, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).
In total, 66,554 people confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection are in isolation at home and 16,504 are in institutional isolation, on Romania’s territory, the GCS specified.
Furthermore, 47,539 people are quarantining at home and 109 are in institutional quarantine, according to the GCS.
Ilfov County, the highest incidence – 8.66 cases per thousand inhabitants
Ilfov County, with 8.66 cases per thousand inhabitants, still has the highest incidence rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection, slightly lower than the previous day (8.68 ), according to the data communicated, on Wednesday, by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).
In Bucharest, the infection rate is 6.91 cases per thousand inhabitants, a slight decrease compared to the previous day (6.92).
