GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 1.564 in past 24 hrs following 37.000 tests nationwide

As many as 1,564 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been registered in the last 24 hours from 36,982 tests that were performed, the Strategic Communication Group informed on Wednesday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test, the quoted source states.

As of Wednesday, 1,060,895 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus had been confirmed in Romania, and 1,002,985 patients had been declared cured.

To date, 7,420,545 RT-PCR tests and 922,015 rapid antigen tests have been processed countrywide.

In the last 24 hours, 24,559 RT-PCR tests were performed (13,048 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 11,511 upon request) and 12,423 rapid antigen tests.

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 406 people were reconfirmed positive.

 

142 deaths recorded due to SARS-CoV-2 in the past 24 hours

 

 

As many as 142 people – 73 men and 69 women – infected with SARS-CoV-2 have died in the last 24 hours, according to data released on Wednesday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS).

Of these, seven deaths were recorded in the age category 40-49 years, 12 deaths in the age category 50-59 years, 36 deaths in the age category 60-69 years, 51 deaths in the 70-79 years category and 36 deaths at over 80 years old.

According to the GCS, 135 of the recorded deaths were in patients with medical history, four deceased patients did not show comorbidities, and for 3 patients no medical record has been reported so far.

Since the beginning of the pandemic and until now, 28,616 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

At the same time, 190 Romanian citizens abroad died due to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

 

1,121 patients in ICU out of 7,810 hospitalised persons

As many as 7,810 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of which 1,121 in intensive care units, the Strategic Communication Group announced on Wednesday.

In total, 22,691 people confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection are in isolation at home and 7,933 are in institutional isolation in Romania, the GCS said.

Moreover, 49,070 people are in quarantine at home and 113 in institutional quarantine.

 

Bucharest, eight counties in yellow scenario of infection with SARS-CoV-2

 

The capital and eight counties are in the yellow scenario of infection with SARS-CoV-2, announced, on Wednesday, the Strategic Communication Group.

Bucharest recorded an infection rate of 2.17 cases per thousand inhabitants, dropping from 2.27 in the previous day.

Also in the yellow scenario (incidence between 1.5 and 3 per thousand inhabitants), with the highest infection rate, are the counties of Ilfov – 2.06, Cluj – 1.95, Alba – 1.80, Caras-Severin – 1.65.
