Citu, asked whether he wants position in PNL leadership: Of course. Orban: Citu has not announced his candidacy for PNL presidency

Prime Minister Florin Citu said on Monday that he wants a position in the leadership of the National Liberal Party (PNL), given the experience he has gained as a parliamentarian, finance minister and prime minister.

He was asked during a press statement if he wanted a position in the PNL leadership, his answer being affirmative.

“Of course. (…) I have always said that I believe that the experience I have gained as a parliamentarian, finance minister and prime minister is an experience that can help the party in the next period,” the prime minister said.

On the other hand, Citu was also asked who he supports for the party leadership, his answer being that he wants to see first who the candidates will be in this regard.

“Let’s have a congress first and we will discuss, we will see who the candidates are and then you can also see the support”, said Florin Citu.

The head of the Government also specified that at this moment his relationship with the PNL leader, Ludovic Orban, is a “very good” one.

Prime Minister Citu confirmed that he had a meeting with the mayor of Cluj, Emil Boc, but did not provide details about what was discussed. “Mr. Boc is in Bucharest these days and we see each other every time he comes to Bucharest,” Florin Citu also mentioned, according to Agerpres.

Orban: Citu has not announced his candidacy for PNL presidency

National Liberal Party (PNL) national chairman Ludovic Orban said on Tuesday that he is convinced that he will win a new term of office as the national head of the party, adding that, as far as the information that Prime Minister Florin Citu could be supported by the Cluj chapter goes, Citu has so far not announced his candidacy for the PNL presidency.

Asked if he has the endorsement of the Cluj chapter in PNL’s Congress for a new term as national chairman, Orban said that each delegate expresses his or her option.

He mentioned that Citu did not announce his candidacy for the party presidency.

“So far, Mr Citu has not announced his candidacy for the party presidency. How can anyone endorse Mr Citu for the party chairman given that Mr Citu has not announced his candidacy? That is a rhetorical question. When I registered for the party presidency, I did so because I am convinced that I will win. (…) My team is PNL,” added Orban.

He said that candidacies to the PNL Congress will be based on a motion.

“Obviously, I will support the candidates at the national leadership positions, as I did last time; I did not want to fill all the leadership positions only with candidates who supported me, I left vacancies for my opponents, for those who did not endorse me,” added Orban.
