GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 618 from over 31,000 tests in last 24 hours

A number of 618 new cases with people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were registered in the last 24 hours, where over 31,000 tests were done, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Thursday.

These are cases that did not have a positive test prior, the quoted source specifies.

Until Thursday, on Romania’s territory, there were 1,074,297 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus, and 1,029,375 patients were declared healed.

At a national level, until now, there were 7,713,542 RT-PCR tests done and 1,071,023 quick antigenic tests.

In the last 24 hours there were 20,560 RT-PCR tests done (10,626 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 9,934 upon request) and 10,692 quick antigenic tests.

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, upon retesting patients who were already positive, 159 people were reconfirmed positive.


663 patients – in intensive care, in 4,137 hospitalizations


A number of 4,137 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the specialized health units, of whom 663 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Thursday

Overall, 11,938 people confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection are in isolation at home and 4,629 are in institutionalized isolation in Romania, GCS said.

Also, 40,689 people are in quarantine at home and 89 in institutionalized quarantine.


Romania’s COVID-19 death toll rises by 61 to 29,777


A number of 61 people – 36 men and 25 women – infected with SARS-CoV-2 died in the last 24 hours, according to data transmitted on Thursday by the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) .

Three deaths were recorded in the age group 40 – 49 years, four in the age category 50 – 59 years, 14 in the age category 60 – 69 years, 19 in the age category 70 – 79 years and 21 in the age category over 80 years.

According to the GCS, 56 of the deaths were reported in patients who had underlying medical conditions, four deceased patients did not report any co-morbidities, and no co-morbidities have been reported so far for one deceased patient.

Overall, COVID-19 death toll has reached 29,777 people in Romania, along with 190 Romanian citizens abroad.


All counties, Capital City continue to be in the green scenario; infection rate in Bucharest 0.82pct


The Capital City and all counties continue to remain in the green scenario in terms of SARS-CoV-2 infections, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Thursday.

In Bucharest, the infection rate is 0.82 cases per thousand inhabitants, decreasing compared to the previous day, when there was an incidence of 0.84 cases per thousand inhabitants.

From the viewpoint of SARS-CoV-2 infections, the incidence of over one per thousand inhabitants is registered in only three counties: Alba – 1.12, Cluj – 1.11 and Prahova – 1.01.

According to GCS, the areas with the most newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 compared to the last report are Bucharest – 91, Cluj – 44, Sibiu – 35, Prahova – 34, Brasov – 30.

The fewest new cases were registered in the counties of Ialomita – 2, Gorj and Calarasi – 3, Dambovita, Mehedinti, Salaj – 4.
