GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 140 in past 24 hours following over 28.000 tests nationwide

As many as 140 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Romania were recorded in the last 24 hours following 28,388 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Wednesday.

These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.

As of Wednesday, 1,079,294 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania. Of these, 1,043,482 were declared cured.

To date, 8,043,386 RT-PCR tests and 1,244,874 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, 19,084 RT-PCR tests were performed (11,326 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 7,758 on request) and 9,304 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 49 people were reconfirmed positive.


272 patients in ICU; hospitalized persons – 1,436


A number of 1,436 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized in specialized health units, of whom 272 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Wednesday.

In total, 3,249 people confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 infection are in isolation at home and 1,825 are in institutionalized isolation in Romania, GCS said.

Also, 22,418 people are in quarantine at home and 63 in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 381 calls were registered to the emergency number 112 and 713 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), open especially for informing citizens.


228 deaths reported in COVID patients; 214 are prior to past 24 hours                        


The Strategic Communication Group (GCS) also announced on Wednesday that 228 deaths (122 men and 106 women) have been reported in patients infected with the new coronavirus, but 214 of them are from last year and since the beginning of this year and they were entered in the database, at the request of the Ministry of Health, by the Public Health Directorates of the country, following the verifications performed.

216 of the registered deaths are of patients who presented with comorbidities, 3 patients did not present comorbidities, and for 9 deceased patients no comorbidities have been reported so far.

In total, 31,383 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection died in Romania.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 191 Romanian citizens abroad detected with COVID-19 have died.

Globally, 3,549,710 people have died worldwide since the beginning of the pandemic.
