E-Distributie invests over 180 million Euros in 2021 in the modernization and digitalization of electricity grids

  • In 2021, E-Distributie companies will expand the electricity distribution grid by over 260 kilometres, through investments from own sources, to reach 131,583 kilometres
  • Grid digitalization is a priority, with E-Distributie companies reaching in the first quarter of 2021 the threshold of 1,000,000 installed smart meters

E-Distributie companies in Romania are investing this year 880 million lei, the equivalent of 182 million euros, in modernizing, digitalizing, and expanding the electricity grid in Bucharest and the ten counties across the country where it operates. The investment programs have a direct impact on the grid’s ability to distribute energy to new consumers and improve the management of unplanned outages to ensure the safe supply to customers, a press release issued by E-Distributie informs.

“Traditional distribution grids, those that transmit electricity to consumers, will be transformed into active and participatory grids, placing the customer at the centre of the energy system and improving the quality of energy distribution service. The grid modernization and digitalization programs that the E-Distributie companies implement are turning this transformation into reality. The company’s strategic plan for the next three years recognizes the key role of grids in the energy transition and focuses on efforts to improve the reliability, resilience, and efficiency of the distribution grids. Everything to the benefit of our customers,” said Monica Hodor, General Manager of E-Distribuţie Banat, E-Distribuţie Dobrogea and E-Distribuţie Muntenia.
