COVID vaccine: Romania has received 16.359.029 doses, of which 54.75% have been administrated

The deputy chairman of Romania’s National COVID-19 Vaccination Coordination Committee (CNCAV), Andrei Baciu, declared that the night between Thursday and Friday, 237,600 vaccine doses produced by Johnson&Johnson will arrive in Romania.

“For the following period, with the exception of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine, we suspended vaccine shipping, in order to have a more efficient stock management. Tonight, 237,600 vaccine doses produced by Johnson&Johnson will arrive in Romania. Additionally from the transaction Romania is doing with Denmark, there are requests from many states. (…) There are several actions and analyses being carried out in this sense, we will probably have news next week,” Baciu told a press conference at Victoria Palace.

He added that until now Romania has received 16,359,029 vaccine doses, of which 54.75% have been administrated. There was also a 0.9 percent of lost vaccine doses.

Gheorghita: Rural vaccine rollout will be intensified with the help of mobile teams

President of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Coordination Committee (CNCAV), doctor Valeriu Gheorghita, announced that the rural vaccine rollout will be intensified with the help of mobile teams.

“Another priority of ours, as already announced, is related to the ‘city vaccinates the village’ concept. We will push the program forward in the next period by increasing the number of mobile teams and by stepping up vaccination activities with the help thereof,” Gheorghita told a press conference at the Victoria Palace of Government.

The CNCAV president added that 642 mobile teams are being deployed to ensure immunization in rural areas and that they have currently reached approximately 1,283 of the 2,862 communes slated for vaccination activities (which represents 44.8 percent of the territorial administrative units targeted for easy access to immunization).

Baciu: 575 private companies start vaccination activity of their own employees; 91 in HoReCa

575 private companies from 38 counties have started the vaccination activity of their own employees, and of these 91 are from the HoReCa field, said on Thursday the vice-president of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Coordination Committee, Andrei Baciu.

“Regarding the vaccination of private economic operators, an activity that started a few weeks ago, so far we have 575 private companies that have started this activity in 38 counties, of which 91 private operators in the field of HoReCa in 21 counties “This activity was carried out with the help of 196 mobile teams. 63,856 people were vaccinated, and of these 3,867 work in Horeca. Brasov, Alba and Bihor are the top counties,” Baciu told a press conference at Victoria Palace of Government.

He added that this week, 250 of these companies will complete the vaccination of the employees and their families.

Decision on heterologous vaccination regimen against COVID-19 expected in Romania next week

Chairman of Romania’s National COVID-19 Vaccination Coordination Committee (CNCAV) Valeriu Gheorghita says that a decision will be made next week on the possibility of a heterologous vaccination regimen against COVID-19 that combines two vaccines with different technologies.

At a news conference at the Government House Gheorghita mentioned the possibility of a vaccination scheme in which the first dose would be of the AstraZeneca vaccine and the second of an mRNA vaccine.

“At this moment, we have the answer from the Epidemiology Commission, it is a response that recommends the use of this scheme; we are waiting for an answer from the Health Ministry’s Public Health Commission, after which we will reevaluate all scientific data and announce next week a final decision. It is very likely that this heterologous vaccination regimen will be adopted in Romania, taking into account the fact that we have scientific data at this time based on which we can make such a decision. Of course, the decision does not contradict the recommendations of the European Medicines Agency,” said Gheorghita.

He added that each nation has its own public health vaccination policy, based on scientific data that certify the safety and effectiveness of vaccination regimens.

“Certain categories of people are identified for whom the administration of a dose of vaccine with different technology may be considered, regardless of which of them – either from BioNTech-Pfizer or from Moderna, generally speaking, for example females under 60, especially when they are on oral contraceptives, or people who are in their first year of being diagnosed with cancer, or people who have a history of thromboembolism, people who have a history of thrombocytopaenia, or people who have cirrhosis of the liver with or without thrombocytopaenia. (…) What do studies show? That the first dose of a vaccine, a viral vector vaccine and followed by the administration of an mRNA vaccine at least eight weeks later is associated with a good safety profile and with the best possible immunogenicity data,” said Gheorghita.
