GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 54 following over 24.000 tests nationwide

As many as 54 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Romania were recorded in the last 24 hours following 24,521 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Friday.

These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.

As of Friday, 1,081,174 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania. Of these, 1,045,351 were declared cured.

To date, 8,453,724 RT-PCR tests and 1,560,788 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, 11,991 RT-PCR tests were performed (5,499 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 6,492 on request) and 12,530 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 13 people were reconfirmed positive.


58 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care; hospitalized persons – 311


311 people infected with the new coronavirus are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of whom 58 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Friday.

In Romania, 2,024 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 670 are in institutional isolation. Also, 21,992 people are in quarantine at home, and 34 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 227 calls were registered to the emergency number 112 and 485 to the TELVERDE line (0800 800 358), open especially for informing citizens.


One death recorded among COVID-19 patients in 24hrs; 28 previous deaths entered in database


The Strategic Communication Group (GCS) on Friday informed that in the past 24 hours 29 deaths were reported – 15 men and 14 women – in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but 28 of them were from last year and from the first half of this year, having been entered in the database only now, upon the request of the Ministry of Health by the Public Health Directorates of the country, following the verifications performed.

The people who died were hospitalized in Arges, Brasov, Iasi, Mures and Prahova.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 34,197 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.


Most new cases of COVID-19 – in Dolj; no new cases in 25 counties


Most newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 compared to the last report were recorded in Dolj – 6, in the counties of Iasi, Satu Mare – 5, Bucharest, Hunedoara and Timis – 4, Cluj, Constanta, Dambovita, Ilfov and Maramures – 2, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Friday.

The counties of Bihor, Botosani, Brasov, Harghita, Prahova and Sibiu had only one case each.

No new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in 25 counties.

All counties and the municipality of Bucharest remain in the green scenario in terms of infections with the novel coronavirus, the highest incidence per thousand inhabitants being seen in Prahova – 0.10, and Ilfov – 0.7.
