GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 26 in the past 24 hours following over 17.000 tests nationwide

A number of 26 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were registered in the last 24 hours, following 17,958 tests, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Sunday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test.

As of Sunday, 1,081,236 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania, and 1,045,351 patients have been declared cured.

To date, 8,473,731 RT-PCR tests and 1,582,570 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the past 24 hours, 8,244 RT-PCR tests were performed (2,243 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 6,001 on request) and 9,714 rapid antigen tests.

Apart from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who had already tested positive, eight people were reconfirmed positive.

 

56 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care; 284 – in hospitals

 

284 people infected with the novel coronavirus are hospitalised, out of whom 56 are in intensive care units, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Sunday.

In Romania, 1,971 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 642 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 22,489 people are in quarantine at home, and 23 people are in institutional quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 188 calls were registered to the 112 single emergency number.

 

One person infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus dies in the past 24 hours

 

The Strategic Communication Group (GCS) on Sunday informed that in the past 24 hours only one death was reported in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

According to GCS, in the last 24 hours, the National Public Health Institute (INSP) reported one death, a patient (a woman) infected with the novel coronavirus, hospitalised in Constanta.

The death was recorded in the age group of over 80 years, and the patient presented comorbidities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic until Sunday, 34,217 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

 

Most new COVID cases – in Bucharest; no case in 29 counties

 

Most cases newly confirmed COVID-19 cases compared to the previous report were registered in Bucharest – 6, in Timis – 5, in Bacau – 3, in Calarasi – 2, in Constanta – 2 and in Ilfov – 2.

In the counties of Arges, Bistrita Nasaud, Galati, Gorj, Iasi, Olt, Prahova, one case each was registered.

No new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in 29 counties.

All counties and the Municipality of Bucharest remain in the green scenario in terms of infections with the novel coronavirus, the highest incidence per thousand inhabitants being in Prahova – 0.09, and in Cluj and Ilfov – 0.04.
