GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 46 following over 10.900 tests nationwide

As many as 46 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Romania were recorded in the last 24 hours following over 10,900 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Monday.

These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.

As of Monday, 1,081,678 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania. Of these, 1,046,776 were declared cured.

To date, 8,552,078 RT-PCR tests and 1,674,630 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, 4,081 RT-PCR tests were performed (1,798 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 2,283 on request) and 6,892 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, six people were reconfirmed positive.


33 patients infected with COVID-19 are in intensive care; 269 persons hospitalized


A number of 269 people infected with the novel coronavirus are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of whom 33 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday.

In Romania, 539 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 417 are in institutionalized isolation.

Also, 32,109 people are in quarantine at home, and 35 in institutionalized quarantine.

In the past 24 hours, 208 calls were registered to the single emergency number 112.


One single death recorded in coronavirus patients in past 24 hours


Only one death has been reported in the past 24 hours in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Monday.

The person who died – a woman – was hospitalized in Iasi.

The death was recorded in the age group 60 – 69 years and the patient had comorbidities.

No deaths from before the reference interval are reported.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 34,254 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.


Most new cases of COVID-19 in Cluj County, zero cases in 21 counties


Most of the newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 compared to the previous report were recorded in Cluj County – 8, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday.

Six cases each were recorded in Bucharest and Ilfov County, and 5 in Iasi County.

There were no new cases recorded in 21 counties.

All counties and the municipality of Bucharest remain in the green scenario in terms of infections with the novel coronavirus, the highest incidence rate per thousand inhabitants being recorded in the counties of Cluj and Satu Mare – 0.06.
