Moxy Bucharest Old Town Hotel celebrates its first year of activity

The hotel records 50% average occupancy in the first six months of this year and rises into the best guest valued hotels across all Europe


Moxy Bucharest Old Town hotel, part of the Lithuanian group Apex Alliance Hotel Management, celebrates the first year of activity on the local market with results above estimates: average occupancy rate reaching 50% for the January – June 2021 interval and one of the highest guest satisfaction rankings in Marriott Select Brand hotels.

Moxy Bucharest Old Town is the first hotel in Romania under the Moxy by Marriott brand, with a boutique hotel concept designed for the new generation traveller. The 119-room hotel was inaugurated on July 20, 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, a real stress test for the entire tourism industry.

“It was a less suitable year for the inauguration of a new hotel, but we are now happy we opened and reached good operational performance. We trusted the resilience of the market and the strong operational excellence of both Apex Alliance Hotel Management and Marriott, which helped us implement safety standards, creative commercial ideas, high efficiency and offer the experience sought after by “fun hunters”, as we call our guests”, said Roxana Vișan, Captain of the Moxy Bucharest Old Town Hotel.

The local hotel sector has been severely affected given the reduction of business travel in Bucharest and the orientation of domestic tourism mainly towards leisure destinations in the country. Despite the pandemic context, Moxy Bucharest Old Town has entered the local hotel market with a well-positioned customer offer and fun and creative brand awareness campaigns, which lead to short periods when we sold hotel rooms achieving over 90% occupancy, while still having the best guest satisfaction index.

“We navigated the waters of the first year of activity well enough, and in this context the digital tools, our concept of “barception”, through which the accommodation is made directly at the central bar of the hotel, or the “grab & go” breakfast, have been extremely useful. We thus attracted our specific audience, dynamic millennials, attentive to details, comfort and safety, and in July we reached an average occupancy rate of 70%”, added Roxana Vișan.

The first year of activity was celebrated by the Moxy Bucharest Old Town crew with a party according to the spirit and style of its guests, in a dynamic atmosphere, spiced with refreshing cocktails and an exciting artistic program. An additional moment of celebration is in the main landmarks achieved by Moxy Bucharest Old Town in the last year, such as being in top 10 positions for best guest satisfaction index in the Marriott Selected Brands, or first place in the ranking of the 40 Moxy hotels in Europe.

These results have been possible due to the positioning of the hotel under a unique brand and the high integration of digitalization and technology in its services. Thus, guests receive a high degree of security given that the check-in can be done online and the key is digital, access being made directly using the application on the phone or smart watch. While in the first six months of 2021 Moxy Bucharest Old Town achieved an occupancy rate close to 50%, for the entire year 2021 it aims to reach an average of more than 55%.
