GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 170 following over 27.500 tests performed in 24 hours

As many as 170 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been registered in the last 24 hours, following over 27,500 tests, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Thursday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test.

As of Wednesday, 1,082,880 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania, and 1,047,528 patients have been declared cured.

To date, 8,666,501 RT-PCR tests and 1,812,025 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, 11,957 RT-PCR tests were performed (5,208 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 6,749 on request) and 16,557 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 19 people were reconfirmed positive.

 

49 COVID-19 patients in intensive care out of 384 hospitalisations

 

As many as 384 people with COVID-19 are hospitalised in Romania at specialist care facilities, out of whom 49 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reports on Thursday.

In Romania, 762 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home and 522 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 44,436 people are in quarantine at home and 110 in institutional quarantine.

 

One death among COVID-19 patients in past 24 hours

 

The Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Thursday that one death has been reported in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the past 24 hours.

The person who died was a woman over 70 years old which was admitted to a hospital in Satu Mare and presented comorbidities.

No deaths prior to the reference period have been reported.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, as many as 34,275 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.

 

Bucharest has highest number of COVID-19 cases – 40 in past 24 hrs

 

Bucharest reported highest number of COVID-19 cases, namely 40 in past 24 hrs, followed by the counties of Cluj – 27, and Ilfov – 14, the Strategic Communication Group announced on Thursday.

In 9 counties (of the 41) there have been no new cases of COVID-19.

All counties and the Bucharest municipality remain in the green scenario from the point of view of infections with the novel coronavirus, the largest incidence per thousand inhabitants being in Ilfov – 0.15.
